This is Poser 9 using an imported object. It does this with all of my imported ones but I haven't been able to figure out what's causeing it. Used Wings3d for the model..
The textured one is just an inset to show that it renders fine. I just can't see it before that..

I've run into this before....not sure what causes it ;). The normals are all facing out? I'm s ure they are....ya know what ur doing...lol.
This normally happens for me when I model something gargantuan and then have to scale tiny in Poser (less than 1% of original size). At least, I think that's the problem I was having. I haven't come across it a lot :)
Edit: I've edited this more than once to clarify my thoughts. Sometimes even I don't know what I'm talking about. LOL

Mmm... just to see if it works .. put a FIGURE in the scene and see if it renders ok ..

This particular model has been giving me trouble since day 1. I just remodeled some of it & remapped the rest because it was missing faces when imported. Solved that problem & got a new one. Maybe someone is trying to tell me something..
@Laurie.. No scaling up or down on my part. Just Poser reducing it on import.* * May be a case of a Poser illiterate buying a program she doesn't know how to use.. LOL*

Quote - No problem with the figures at all.. Here's a Dawn one that I did a couple days ago. Which is why I think it might be something I'm doing with the model.
Euhmmm ..that was not what i meant .. out a figure "just a hat or pants etc V4 Dawn"
in the scene with the problem child .. then see if the problem child renders ok..
In that past Props came out all black due to a "error in poser" if there was no figure in the scene , just the prop ..
So try it with a figure in the scene ..

This is what happened when I imported with Dawn in the scene. A little better. I don't have much else that I can add. Just got this while it was on sale. I also changed/lightened the lights some too. The default ones are very dark.
I did run into the problem of not seeing a bird in Poser until I added something bigger to the scene.

can you show the material ?
Poser has a bug where very small items in a scene by themselves wind up black. Putting a figure in the scene , even out of camera view seems to get Poser to display correctly. Your problem seems different.
Note: an image will not preview if you scale or offset it in the image node properties.

Somebody had this problem with one of AlfaSeed's products and her answer was that it was something to do with the shader + preview combo used.
She linked to this post about changing your preview to SreeD as a workaround: http://forum.runtimedna.com/showthread.php?78961-A-L-I-C-E-Yly-FAQs&p=770826&viewfull=1#post770826

markschum.. The textures are some I made in Photoshop using photos. I don't know enough about the material room to do much in there but change textures when I need to.
sinsation.. Thanks Much for that link. I think it may have solved the problem.
Thank you all for your help...
