This has been a peeve of mine for months now and I reached overload tonight. As someone stated in another thread, hardly any of the Vendors actually use the Promo Credits tab. I'd like to see it be required for Vendors to state what version of Poser they used for their promo images. If Poser Pro 2012 or 2014, did they use GC? Did they use IDL? Environment Sphere? Are they still using IBL? If they used lights available in the Marketplace, then put a credit to them. I know that a few Vendors will state that their characters will look different under different lighting conditions, but I don't see why they can't give the aforementioned information about their promos. Also I've seen several threads lately where someone is looking for a hair model used in various promos. So I just don't see why its so hard to have Vendors provide this information on the Promo Credits tab.

Thanx for listening! I don't mean to rant, but this just has been bothering me for a while. I see a good promo thumbnail. I click on it. I'm interested, but I want to know this information (particularly about lights), and the Vendors say nothing about it. This is also bugs me about gallery images as well. Not crediting lighting used and the version of Poser used.

Some venders give that info. but few do and I agree it's annoying. But even if they did it would still hit and miss to achieve renders the same as the ads.

Ever bought a McDonalds hamberger that looks anything like their TV ads?

Hm. it could be that not everyone remembers WHERE they bought a particular hair - or lighting set. I have zillions of hair and omg except for a few that are in a Daz folder, I have no idea where I bought which and certainly not who made it.

Lights.. you know.. lots of people actually make their own lights. so they're hard to credit ;)

My default scene in Poser is BB's Soft Ligth Studio, but I rarely leave that "as is" - I turn the lights, add one, remove one.. is that still "BB's Soft Light Studio" then?

I agree that credits are nice, I know I bought the Victorian Innocence set from RDNA because I saw it in a promo pic, and without the credit it would have taken me a lot longer to find it. I also bought the hair from that promo because it was listed and thus easy to find.

I also like when people list what Poser version they used. I can usually tell the DS renders from Poser but not always.

But mandatory credits? Would you expect a painter to list the brands of paints he used, too?

Lately I've been rendering everything with Reality3 and Lux anyway so as long as something works there, I don't really care how DS or Poser renders it

I will chime in and state I agree with the OP and find it odd where a room or enclosed building is sold in the marketplace, that if the vendor made their own lights and posed their characters for their promo images why those light sets and or poses aren't included. Saving off light sets takes seconds. Poses not much longer. If they used a purchased light set and or pose set then it is easy to list in the credits the name of the light set or pose set used.

If clothes or shoes are sold and the promo is V4 or Dawn posed in front of background, the lack of details doesn't bother me.

Why stop at requiring them to post credits. Why don't we make 'em post screenshots of their settings  too.

I think it's nice for vendors to list other products used. It shows they're willing to go the extra mile for their customers, and those are people I want to support. But I don't want to require them to do it.
