Subject: Assistance with Reality 3 plugin

I am hoping to get advice. I recently purchased the Reality 3 plugin and have been able to render great images.

However, the Poser 9 materials are somehow not importing and translating correctly. Not sure what, if anything, I might be doing wrong.

Image maps seems to import correctly, but textures or mat files are not rendering properly.

I've attached two images of the same scene using Poser primitives and textures/shaders from the Poser 9's Basic Materials directory.

Any advice?

Although the programs author does visit here often, he has a forum specifically for the product at http://preta3d.com/

Hi.

Can you post the screenshots of the Reality materials involved? Without seeing how they are configured I cannot tell you what's happening.

Cheers.

Thanks! I will post screen captures ASAP.

ACue posted Mon, 21 October 2013 at 9:08 PM

Here are screen captures. In particular, the highlighted material shown here is the Pyramid object, which in the Poser scene has the Stucco selection from the Bricks and Tiles Basic Materials directory. I hope this is helpful.

Following your advice on Troubleshooting at the RuntimeDNA site, here is more information:

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for your advice on this problem.

Thank you.

Well, as you can see the Diffuse channel is pure white color so that's how it's expected to render.

Regarding the GPU acceleration, that message from LuxRender is clearly showing that you had selected to use it. Until you become proficient with LuxRender I would suggest to avoid using the GPU.

Regarding the material, I'll take a look at that setting. It's likely that that material is a procedural one that is using some operations that are not supported by Reality or LuxRender. Procedural materials are supported but there are some cases that are outside what Reality can translate, at this time.

That is not an issue. Most materials that you use in Poser, including complex ones, will be comverted OK. It just happens that you fooudn one that is causing this result.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does help. Thank you. Plesae let me know if you find/confirm that the material is indeed not able to be processed by Reality/LuxRender at this time.

Also, for the glass ball, try using Reality's built in glass instead.

To get the most of Reality/Lux, you should really go through all the materials and change things like glass and metals to their Reality equivalent. It'll look much better, and it doesn't take too long :) (and the result is SO worth it!)

Thank you both for your advice. However, it appears that I am unable to render anything other than an image map or colours.

For some reason, none of the procedural materials are converting into Reality or into Lux. See the image attached. Top image is scene rendered with Firefly, bottom with Reality 3 plugin.

It's a simple test, using the Andy figures, from left, one with Cyber texture (which is an image map),  in the centre the standard MilkMan Andy texture and the one on the right, with the Andy Checkers texture, which is aare both procedural materials. As you can see, the last two are simply appearing with the white, diffuse channel colour. Whereas the image map is converting properly.

As Paolo described erlier in this thread, these material should be easily converted. But they're not in my case.

Paolo, can you confirm that indeed, Reality 3 can or can't process these procedural materials? On the other hand, if Reality is indeed supposed to correctly convert the materials, can you speculate as to the possible cause for my problem?

Could someone volunteer to try to recreate or at least render Andy with these three textures/materials, from Poser's Mannekin materials directory?

Possible issue, I am not running the OpenCL version of LuxRender. Could this be the issue?

Thanks!

No, whatever version of Lux you are using is not affecting how Reality converts the materials. Have you tried to use standard texture-based materials? Procedurals are tought.
