Subject: Poser 10 Libraries Missing

I know that this has been discussed before, but it always seems to end with the P10 update.

I just purchased P10 from SM, installed it, and all of its contents, then installed the update, rebooted my computer, and opened P10 for the first time. No libraries, but sometimes I get the library tabs, but they don't function correctly (Unable to add runtimes, etc).

I'm running Windows 8.13 (I think it's three).

Crispycraft posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 9:38 AM

Okay, I'm running Windows 8.1 (not 8.13), and the version of Poser 10 that I have is 10.0.3.26066 (without the update) which means I don't need the update, I'm guessing.

When Windows 8.1 came out my Poser 8 stopped working, and I was told that Poser 10 would work with the new Windows version. Everything else looks good, but just no libraries. Sometimes I get the "Add Libraries" button to show (after re-opening P10 a few times), but it doesn't work, and most of the time the entire Libraries area is empty.

randym77 posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 10:17 AM

SM will be releasing a fix for this soon.  (Teyon said "early December.")

In the mean time, roll back to an older version of IE.

randym77 posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 10:22 AM

To clarify, in case you have not read the other threads on this...the problem is IE 11, which Microsoft forcibly installed a little awhile go on any computer that permitted Windows automatic updates.  Roll back to an older version.

Crispycraft posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 10:45 AM

I will try that right now! Thanks, randym77!

bopperthijs posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 11:10 AM

...the problem is IE 11.     And IE 11 comes with the windows 8.1 upgrade, so I have to roll back to widows 8.0. I even don't know if this possible but it's sure a lot of work. at least it takes 2 hours, which was in fact the time it took to upgrade. And just because my poser library doesn't work.

Every other program I use works perfect with the new 8.1 upgrade, but poser is useless at the moment, I really hope SM will come with a fix very soon because this is ridiculous!

randym77 posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 11:56 AM

SM already released the fix for Poser 9, so I assume they've figured it out for Poser 10 as well.

They are planning to release it with the previously scheduled Content Updater, which will give us a new Rex and Roxie.  That's probably what's holding it up.

Crispycraft posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 12:02 PM

I just tried to rollback 11 to 10, but I was unsuccessful. What a let down P10 has been thus far...

WandW posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 12:04 PM

According to the Readme, SR2 should enable compatability with Windows 8.1, and SR3 was released on the 20th, after the 11.0.1 update to Win 8.1.  This is likely a different issue.  Do your firewall settings allow Poser access to to the internet?

randym77 posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 12:13 PM

Do you mean you were unsuccessful in rolling back to IE 10, or that you did that, and it didn't fix your problem with Poser?

Crispycraft posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 12:23 PM

I tried to rollback from IE11 to IE10, but it didn't work. Even though I uninstalled update KB2888505, IE11 still torments my IE. Still no libraries. lol

randym77 posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 12:33 PM

From what Bopper said above...it sounds like you have to roll back to Windows 8.0 to get rid of IE 11.

Or you could just wait until SM releases a fix.  Hopefully it will be next week.

Maybe if you contacted SM tech support, they might have a solution?

WandW posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 12:40 PM

There was never IE 10 in 8.1; it came with 11; some are apparently confusing your problems with an issue with IE11 for Windows 7.  Since Poser 10 SR2 or higher is stated to work with 8.1, this is likely something else.

With Poser running browse in the Poser Program directory to Runtime/ui/FlexLSMGUI/Flex/bin-release/ and open LSMGUI.html in a web browser with a working flash plugin installed; does the Poser Library appear?

I contacted them today, but I would guess that they are out for the long weekend. lol I'm guessing that I'll hear back from them about the same time they fix the problem.

For now, I'll just sit here with my unusable Poser 10.

bopperthijs posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 12:45 PM

I contacted with SM support and they gave an usual solution: delete your preference files and if that doesn't work reïnstall poser and use the latest service release. I did that twice and the library still doesn't work as it should be: it does something but it seems to work extremely slow.

I checked my firewall settings, but poser is allowed to access the internet as it should be.

WandW posted Fri, 29 November 2013 at 1:16 PM

That means that something is blocking Poser's Internet access; it uses the so-called loopback address of your computer, 127.0.0.1, to communicate with the library GUI.  Do you have firewall software running?  If not, Windows Firewall could still be blocking access.  Here is how to enable access for the Windows Firewall in Windows 7; Presumably 8.1 is similar...

Did you ever get it to be fully operational? I see that it is loading in the program while it's loading in IE, but it's extremely slow, and some of the buttons, etc., still aren't showing. Maybe they need more time?

So, once it loads on the program, will it always be there, or do I have to HTML it every time I want to use Poser10?

Last night Poser support was helping me troubleshoot the problem, and after many failed attempts to fix the issue I, personally, have come to the conclusion that Poser 10 just isn't going to work with my Windows 8.1 hp Phoenix Envy system.

Shouldn’t it just be as easy as it was when I installed Poser8 for the first time, or Carrara Pro (Which I passed up for this)?

bopperthijs posted Sat, 30 November 2013 at 12:18 PM

I have the same system, so that make sense.

So what do we do now?

I, truly, have no idea. I guess I'll just wait for tech support to reply to my last entry, and see what they have to offer. I've been considering asking for a refund, and doing what I wanted in the first place. Purchase the new Carrara Pro version.

Crispycraft posted Sat, 30 November 2013 at 12:43 PM

I will add that, after three hours of leaving Poser10 open, the "Transactions Pending" & "In Progress" numbers have finally reached zero! But still no libraries.

Crispycraft posted Sat, 30 November 2013 at 12:54 PM

Alright, I think we may be getting somewhere!?

After the fourth hour, P10 has allowed me to locate my runtime folder. Now the "Transactions Pending" & In Progress" notification points are deliberating on my selections induction into P10.

bopperthijs posted Sat, 30 November 2013 at 4:59 PM

Four hours? you have a lot more patience then I have, I gave up after one hour because I thought it was frozen. Perhaps I have to try again and keep it running for a night. But I really hope SM finds a solution, because this isn't normal and extrenely annoying.

I had a good running system before I upgraded to windows 8.1, I really regret that I did this.

-How can you improve things when you don't make mistakes?

Crispycraft posted Sat, 30 November 2013 at 5:09 PM

Well, the truth is... I forgot it was running. lol But when I looked at it, more things had popped up. It appears to me that it's a matter of loading more than missing elements. THis is just my take on it. By no means do I know exactly what's going on.

Right now,the library window is open, with visible tabs, and the different sections are actually trying to show up (character, face, materials, hands, etc., etc., etc.).

Who knows what may happen in the next hour or by morning. lmao!

I can't say that I regret updating my computer. This is strictly an SM problem we're dealing with here. THey need to step up to the plate. And it's possible that they have, they just haven't hit the ball yet ;)

I'll be happy to keep you posted.

The one thing that has me puzzled is the fact that you and I are the only two Poser users having this trouble... that we know of.

Crispycraft posted Sat, 30 November 2013 at 8:35 PM

Okay, after about 6 to 8 hours of leaving Poser10 open, it accepted my request to add my daz library. About two hours after that I still couldn't see the library, but in the search tab I could search for items and after about thirty minutes or so it would find it, thus allowing me to add it to a scene. Although it did take quite some time before it actually made it to the scene.

Still can't see the library though...

bopperthijs posted Sun, 01 December 2013 at 6:23 AM

The same to me, I could add a runtime, but I didn.t see any icons. At that time, it was far past midnight, so I gave up and went to bed.

-How can you improve things when you don't make mistakes?

Crispycraft posted Sun, 01 December 2013 at 9:32 AM

Okay, a little recap on what's happened so far:

  1. Poser10 opens and no library showed upon opening (5 seconds give or take).
  2. After accidentally leaving Poser10 open for around one hour "Transactions Pending" & "In Progress" numbers appear.
  3. After 4 to 6 hours of leaving Poser10 running, "Add Library Folder" allowed me to navigate to my DAZ Runtime and select it. Side Note ~ After selecting my runtime folder, nothing showed in library window, and the selection window reappeared in the center of the screen again. I figured that the runtime wasn't accepted by P10 so I navigated and selected it once more. When I clicked "OK" a small window appeared telling me that that particular runtime had already been added.
  4. Still unable to see library files, but able to select "Search" tab and search for items by name. Also, P10 will now open pz3 files made with P8. This tells me that P10 is, in fact, reading my DAZ runtime folder.
  5. P10 allows me to now set my "Preferred Scene", and will load it each time I open P10. Still no libraries show in library window (DAZ or Poser10).

This entire even took approximately 12hrs to complete, and after that I needed some sleep. The interesting thing to me is the amount of time needed for these events to take place.

So, what would make Poser10 run so slowly?

What makes or breaks the viewing of the library window contents while P10 is actually reading them (tabs, buttons, etc., etc.)?

Okay, SM says it's AVG fault, and AVG says it's SM's fault, and to contact the other for help.

Smith-Micro did say that the exceptions needed to be set up in AVG to allow communications.

"Most likely, you need to update the exceptions to allow for Poser 10 location. AVG, from what I understand creates rules that are specific to paths. Poser.exe is the application name since Poser 4, so the path has changed, but the application is the same. Contact AVG Support Staff for help in setting up exceptions."

Does this mean anything to anyone here?!?!

If adding poser.exe and possibly the folder where you keep your content folders didn't work, I don't know either.

I've used the free version of Avast for many years (just don't let it install Google Toolbar and Chrome) and had few issues over the years.  It does pop up a little ad for their servicves when you logon, but it's not too obtrusive.  I've heard Windows Defender works well too...

Crispycraft posted Tue, 03 December 2013 at 10:55 AM

bopper - WandW, I think I figured it out!

I was trying to isolate the problem this morning. We knew that turning off AVG wouldn't allow P10 to function correctly, but who wants to turn off the entire AVG anti-virus? So I turned off the resident shield only. Nothing changed. Then I turned that back on, and turned off the Surf-Shield. Poser10 worked great with Surf-Shield turned off! Then I shut down P10 and turned the Surf-Shield back on, and for some reason started P10 again, and it worked. Now AVG is giving full protection and Poser10 is working perfectly! With AVG at 100% protection, I have restarted P10 4 to 5 times and it works great!!!!

I guess Poser10 needed to make that first good connection with the internet to establish a working window, and now AVG is allowing conectivity between the two.

AWESOME!

And to think AVG wanted $50. lol

I'm currently running 2013. Did you try out what I found?

bopperthijs posted Tue, 03 December 2013 at 12:15 PM

I have to reïnstall it. I tried everything yesterday evening, but I couldn't find what was blocking Poser. I will try it and let you know if it works.

That's fantastic! It's good to know that we could get this issue resolved. If you hadn't noticed the primary AVG issue we may still be scratching our heads. LOL

Good job to the both of us!

They should. I was seriously considering asking for a refund. lol  I was told, prior to making the P10 purchase, that P10 would work with Windows 8.1. When it didn't, I was, to say the least, quite frustrated.

bopperthijs posted Tue, 03 December 2013 at 5:19 PM

Frustrated is an understatement, I almost pulled out the last hairs I have left: I had Poserpro2014 working perfectly and suddenly it stopped, but as I said, it works better than before so I'm happy after all.

I was going crazy because, despite setting my updates to manual, IE11 was still loading. Here's a link to a MS Tool Kit that blocks installation of IE11
