Hi all,
Looking for a replacement for my old Windows XP machine I am confronted with the choice between two versions: One with a version 'Core I7 4770' processor and one with a '4th generation Core I7 4770', with a price difference.
Are these different I7-4770's or is it just marketing humbug?

Hi
There are 2 versions.
One of them should have K at the end of the number.
The standard one has the circuitry for 'virtualisation' more for server situations or running a virtual 'XPPro'.
The 'K' version has that circuitry deactivated and is made to be overclocked.

I've been using an i7 2700K overclocked 20% on stock cooling since I bought it a couple of years back. Neve a hic cup or hassle. My vote is for the K

OK, managed to find the answer at Intel: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/processor-numbers.html
The '4' in '4xxx' indicates 4th generation. Both versions have the same processor. Advertising the more expensive version as having a ' 4th generation' processor is just a marketing ploy by the vendor.
