Hi everyone,
I'm suggesting a Pipeline forum be created at Rendo.
I know you all understand pipeline, but for the noobs here, pipeline is the ability to move resources from one application to another. Say you start a model in XSI and want to go to Maya to animate, the ability to transfer (other than just exporting and importing) is what pipeline is all about. Resources created in a modeler that have to go to a game engine. Taking your Poser scene into Vue, or plugging Vue into Max, or using GoZ, or Collada, are all pipeline things. Sometimes you can have a 2d image open in Photoshop that is a texture in Poser and have Poser material room open at the same time, changing PS changes the result in Poser semi-dynamically so you can adjust "on the fly." Other apps, it changes fully dynamically.
Basically, how a person goes from one app to another to get things done.
I suggest this for two reasons. First, learning and sharing pipeline information is necessary for today's computer graphics folks. There is no single application that gets you from concept to box office. We have to move things around. Poser content requires some sort of pipeline to get it to the market place.
Second, many of the forums consider themselves as purists. I won't name names, but if you are in "SoftwareM" forum then talking about "SoftwareX" or other applications is often offensive.
So a pipeline forum would help us to talk about how we move things around and if we need to talk about two or more applications, folks won't be offended.
Love to see it.
Eric
