I know a lot of the conforming ties out there have plenty of morphs, but not enough to get the realism I'm looking for. I can't find any dynamic ties and have tried converting some conforming ones, but to no avail. (Either they don't go all the way around the neck or there's something about their mesh that won't let them work as dynamic.)
Any suggestions out there?

Sounds like you have done what I would have done, and I've had less success.
Rosemaryr posted Sun, 30 March 2014 at 9:46 AM
Poser dynamic? (Just checking because sometimes Daz users do post here as well, and DAZ dynamics is different...) And do you want just the loose ends dynamic (leaving the part around the neck in place)?
And what kind(s)? Windsor, Ascot, bowtie, etc.?
And do you want them fully tied, or open and loose at the neck, or laying untied over the shoulders? Or all of the above?
Just trying to get an idea of what you need.
I could probably whip up several versions fairly quickly in Marvelous Designer.... and it would fit in with the type of things I make.. accessories and such.
DocMatter posted Sun, 30 March 2014 at 10:29 AM
I'm working with Poser and was looking for an open windsor knot... loose about the collar... you know, with the top button or two on the shirt undone. Ideally, the part around the neck would settle about the figures neck and the loose ends hanging wherever.
Hope that's enough info.

Okay! Give me a day or two and I'll post the results for your approval.

(I can also send along a few ties that are different steps of tying up a Half Windsor.. in case you want to have a man of action shown doing his tie up grin I saved my progress along the way, so I would just need to output the .obj files for each stage.)

Wow! That was fast! Looking forward to the finished product. Funny, that's how it usually looks whenever I try a Windsor... the long end turns out way too short. ;)
Rosemaryr posted Sun, 30 March 2014 at 5:16 PM
chuckle Yeah, it needs some tweaks, sure enough! But I can send you the funny version, too, if you want it. grin

I'll put it through the paces there tomorrow, when I get a bit more time. I will also fit it to V4 and give you that one too, so the girls can wear their boyfriend's ties, if they feel like it!

The men's tie will have three main varieties: Loose, Tight, and "I'm Soo Drunk!" I'll get them smart-propped to M4, and the dynamic zones pre-set, once I get into Poser.
The ends will need to use the drape option in the Cloth Room to let them fall into position, (or fly in any wind you add). I thought that was best depending on what other garments you had on M4.

Once I have these finalized, packaged up and uploaded, I'll do up the 'stages of tying' ties as a next project.

Poser testing, first round....grrrr. (Wish Poser handled cloth layers as easily as MD!)
I'm going to have to re-create the knot section so there aren't any overlapping layers to confound Poser's Cloth room. It will be simpler in appearance, and not quite as realistic up close.

I agree, it looks great!

Watching with interest. Could you perhaps 'bake' the MD simulation for the knot, then include it in the soft- or hard- decorated groups to preserve it during the Poser simulation? Just thinking out loud. A simplified knot would be perfectly adequate most of the time.

That was one of my intitial test runs. Didn't quite work out.
I will do something like that for the Tightly tied one, and the Drunkerd's Tie, because for both of those, the knot will not have to move very much. For those I will just assign the neck-band portion and the knot to the non-dynamic zones, and only the loose ends will be dynamic.
But the Loose Tie will have to have a knot that will stand up to Poser's Cloth room's sims, as the entire thing may be needed to move as a whole. (I am imagining things like a tie draped over a doorknob or over the back of a chair... places where it would be carelessly tossed and need to drape naturally.) I want to be able to offer that as it was implied in the original request.

Looks fantastic. A much needed product to depict M4 running away from V4 as she chases him with a sword...Or the reverse. M4 is chasing after V4 to ask her out on a date!

Well, I've gotten the Drunkerd's Tie and the Tight ties done. Making them have just the ends be the dynamic elements worked as I thought. They are all set up for Poser dynamics, and saved as smart props.
Question: Should I post them separately (by tomorrow), or wait until I have the Loose version finished (probably by this weekend)?

rose, does it drape as easily as poser cloth or torus? I've had trouble getting chain necklace to drape.

To Miss Nancy: ? Chain necklace? Do you mean the ones here?:

They aren't meant to be dynamic. They are simply static props. And while you might be able to force Poser's Cloth room to run a sim, the mesh is so complex that Poser would probably choke on them.

OOHHH! Now that is a thread I haven't seen, and could use! I've got a number of ZBrush chains (like the ones in my static prop freebies) that could take advantage of this trick! Thanks for the link!!

thx fr ties, rosemary!
thx fr thread, dad. I got cage's chain loop to drape on luxxeon's free necklace_bust prop using hidden string technique, altho I found they would also drape with no string. as mentioned by rosemary, it can be a tad slow with alotta linx.
