Either head over to Rooster Teeth or google the above on youtube. They've released the intro animation for the new season of RWBY! For those who don't know, RWBY is the brainchild of Monty Oum, animator and fight scene choreographer extraordinaire. What relevence has this here? Simple. It was animated in Poser Pro 2014. Or to be more precise, the assets were modelled in Maya before being animated in Poser (and Ghod is that so much fun to point out..... Also a good lesson about using the fastest tool, not the biggest). All the characters have been re-rigged since season 1, and they have done some serious bullet physics intregration into the mix (hair, cloth, streamers, bewbies where applicable, etc....). There are only a few scenes you can see it, but the figure motion is much better. The art style has changed a bit from S1; Monty finally got to hire Christina Nguyen as their art director, so there is far more depth to sets than last time. And of course Jeff Williams music and Casey Lee Williams singing tops the cake. This season will be somewhat longer; there will be 12 episodes of 10+ minutes each instead of 16 with only 3 exceeding 5 minutes. Enjoy!

Is this rendered in Poser Pro 2014?  Given the total run time, I'm mentally calculating how much rendering muscle that would take.

Poser 12, in feet.

OSes:  Win7Prox64, Win7Ultx64

Silo Pro 2.5.6 64bit, Vue Infinite 2014.7, Genetica 4.0 Studio, UV Mapper Pro, UV Layout Pro, PhotoImpact X3, GIF Animator 5

At the very least the figures and the set pieces they interact with. I don't know how big a renderfarm they have at RT, but they do have one. I've only seen one scene that I would have to see it in Poser to believe it. It was episode 8 of last season; the temple section that was hit by the giant bird and collapsed. It looked too complicated a physics sim to really pull off. But aside from that, everything I've seen is well within Poser's render capabilties. If you use 64 bits, lots of ram, and as Monty Oum says so well, you cheat like a motherf*cker.

IIRC all the rendering is done in preview mode.  So it is very quick to the final product.  Looking forward to the next dairy #4 where they will talk about post production.
