Subject: Seen or got any impressive photoshop extended meshes ?

RorrKonn ( ) posted Sat, 21 June 2014 at 2:27 AM · edited Thu, 13 February 2025 at 8:45 AM

I'm looking for impressive meshes that's been textured using photoshop extended.

A URL of any meshes in the store that used photoshop extended.
A URL to a photoshop extended gallery would be really helpful.

Any URL to anywhere that's showing a photoshop extended mesh.

all I could find on youtube was a car and a head.

Can't get any help from google so far.

Thanks

I have CS4 extended but I don't use it to texture cause it's pointless when I have zbrush. Not to mention extremely limiting cause it doesn't handle high poly count models very well at all.

I don't see too many people listing what methods they use to texture in their product descriptions, and most of the high-end artists I know of use zbrush for that process and photoshop layers for postwork.

You might find some examples if you browse portfolios on other sites like game artisans or cg society.

You should buy 3D photoshop by Steve Caplin and on the book site you have some meshes to download

Some obj format meshes can also be opened with textures in  Photoshop Cs6 extended

I don't know anyone making models specifically for Photoshop support yet.  The 3D tools in there are primitive so far, and reminiscent of old Dream3D or RayDream Studio days, back in the mid to late 90's (with the exception of environment lighting).  Most low-res .dae, .obj, and Unity game models work ok in it.

at CGTalk and other forum gallerys they just about always name Photoshop, but ya never know what they used Photoshop for. and there will probably be zBrush & or Mudbox. and ya don't know what they used them for.

today loaded a .tif displacment map in gimp.
a warning pop up about gimp would cut the bits in 1/2 to 16 bit ,not good.
but in folder properties still says it's 32 bit.
some how I just always have probleams texturing.
so I'm looking for anything and everything that can help.

been using gimp to make spotlight textures for zBrush.
So have not needed photoshop.
but since Photoshop has a rep of being the baddest texturing app ever made.
would have thought they had a lot more to offer.

zBrush is killer .
Still looking around for other killer texturing app's.
That's idiot proof ,need all the help I can get. :)

Thanks

Have you tried 3DCoat yet?  There's a couple of us over in the 3dsmax forum talking about it, and how it's helped speed up our texturing workflow.  You can paint on models with the same layer fucntions as Photoshop, and it can actually import and use Photoshop brushes too.  I personally find the UI a little easier to grasp then Zbrush.

The other plus with 3d Coat is you don't have to sub-divide your model to times gazillion.

True, unless you wanted to sculpt in it.  It has nice voxel sculpting features too.  I like to model in Max, then export to unwrap and texture in 3D Coat.  I was previously using Sculptris to paint directly on the models and do texturing, but after trying 3D-Coat, I decided to save up the money to purchase it.  The UV tools and texture painting are just so easy to use, and work great with the models in Max.  Sculptris didn't like models that had more than 16 points leading to a vertice, so you were forced to use quad spheres all the time, or geospheres in your models.

I like that I can paint directly without sub-dividing the mesh, but mostly I use 3dCoat for topology and UV maps/tools...maybe I should try painting more in it to familiarize myself. 😄

I still use Max for retopology.  I have the Wrapit plugin, and it blows away anything else I've tried, including Topogun.  However, the UV tools in Coat are crazy easy and powerful.  If you try the painting, explore the ability to import seamless materials, and paint them on the model in the viewport.  It's just so cool the way it's implimented.  Reminds me of the old Right Hemisphere's DeepPaint 3D surface projection tool, but more powerful!

Wrap it is crazy good. Unfortunately I am using Max 2014 and somehow my serial for WrapIt is not taking and Matt has dropped off the grid...all my emails are coming back bounced. DAMMIT! 😄

3DCoat gallery is cool but didn't see a lot of mechs in it.

Is 3DCoat painting bad about stretching or streaking around sharp angles ,90 degree angles ?

Nope.  It actually has a reputation for stetch-free UV mapping and painting.  Photoshop isn't known as the baddest UV mapper.  It's used for UV map painting, because you can work in layers, etc.  It's mostly used for compositing render passes together in post.  However, 3D Coat allows you to paint in exactly the same layer system as Photoshop, directly on the 3D model.  You can work interactively with Photoshop in 3D coat, as the texture layers can be transferred seamlessly to Photoshop, and back again.  It doesn't matter if it's mech, organic, or whatever.  Most of the work I've seen done with it in combination with 3dsmax has been on hard-surface models actually.  As long as your models are made with logical edge flow, and in quads, then they should be very easy to unwrap with the UV loop selection tools in 3D Coat.  Download the demo, import your model and choose the auto-unwrap option, then start painting on the surface.  I started a thread about 3DCoat in the 3dsmax forum here.

Rorr, a user in the 3dsmax forum just posted some examples of hard-surface models he unwrapped and painted with 3D-Coat over in my thread on the max forum, if you wanna take a look.  There's a lot of hard edges going on, and 90 degree angles, and I don't see any texture stretching or such on his models at all.  The textures look perfect.  Hope that helps.

I think if you wanted to do some extra editing of your UV textures, after painting them, similar to postwork, then owning Photoshop is a big plus.  You can adjust saturation and stuff directly in 3Dcoat if you wanted, but most people prefer to do these kind of adjustments in Phtoshop.  The 3D-Coat direct link to Photoshop allows you to pass your textures back and forth between applications, with all layers and layer blending intact.  Very powerful to have that feature.  It's like a "goZ" link between other apps and Zbrush, but for 3d-coat/photoshop, obviously.

I don't have Mudbox now, but I have used it for years.  The differences between Mudbox and Zbrush are mostly in the UI, and workflow with AD products.  Mudbox works with Maya and 3dmsax in a more integrated fashion, or so they want you to believe, because it's part of the AD suite of integrated tools.

I think Mudbox has a more robust retopology toolset, currently, than 3D-Coat or Topogun, but 3dsmax has native retopo tools I feel are still better than Mudbox.  AD will  probably never update 3dsmax retopo tools now that Mudbox has it though, and that's sad news.

Now that I've tried 3D-coat, however, I prefer it's paiting tools to what are in Mudbox currently, and the UI is much easier to learn in my opinion.

Very welcome, Rorr.  I know you have used Maya before, but feel free to also drop into the 3dsmax forum here on Rosity any time.  Your insight and input on general modelling will always be welcome there.  The Max forum here has seen a resurgence of activity lately, and some genuinely useful information is being exchanged there.

can confirm it's easy to import poser objs into APS CSE, and easy to paint on 'em, especially helpful with seams.

Wish AutoDesk would do the monthly suit thing like Adobe with Max,Maya,MudBox.
For $50.00 a month ;)

Miss Nancy APS is on my to get list and I'm sure it would be easy to go from Gimp to APS.

Looks good RorrKonn. Is that still zbrush?

There's a new tutorial series on zbc showing a helmet you might want to check out. It covers some painting techinques and other sculpting demos. Pretty nice collection of videos.

Still have alot left to do to the meshes.

Joseph Drust Helmet is Wicked Cool.
And the Video's are Killer Educational.
Have nothing but High Praise for it All.

Lets say Joseph Drust Helmet is for a game.
If we compare a game helmet to a Poser helmet.
Poser helmet ya can zoom in put it under a microscope and fine any and all flaws.
A Game Helmet will on take up a very small part of the screen & will be moving.
So no microscope to find flaws.
Always helps that no one is thinking about the meshes.there to bussy with the game.
Games are just now starting to even look good.

LuxXeon wood texture ,I half to try 3D Coat demo now.

Along with
Photoshop
http://quixel.se/ DDO for Texturing
http://www.allegorithmic.com/ Painter for Texturing
http://www.thefoundry.co.uk/ Mari for Texturing

Guess I kinda knew but never really thought about what kind of studio ya would need
to make highend finished meshes really fast for Poser.untill I started making meshes for Poser

Have no idea how bad I wish I could make Poser meshes as easily as I can game meshes.
