I only have a couple of weeks left on my free trial for Poser 10 and I need to make a decision.
I can either stick with Poser10 or I can get Poser Pro 2012. I see that the older pro version is currently available at Amazon for less than the price for regular Poser 10. I'm of the impression that I would appreciate the extra features of Pro, but cannot possibly get Poser Pro 10!
I'm not working with animation. I'm mostly doing cover art for a work of fiction I'm working on - though if I like Poser enough, I'm tempted to do a graphic novel. I do like the idea of working with Poser's strand-based hair to help create my characters. I will probably have to design my own clothes for them as well.
Given all this, what would you advise for me? Stick with Poser 10 realizing that there is no way I can get the Pro version of this at this time...? Or Get Poser Pro 2012? (And would I lose any of my Poser 10 work as a result?)
Thanks!

That's really cool. Unfortunately, it's still way above budget... as I either need to buy the whole thing - or the 2012 plus upgrade... (only about $10 cheaper than doing the whole thing.)
Now, I see the Poser Debut thing... $9.99 - can I really go from that to Pro 2014??? If so, then I'm totally sold.

If you think you're going to be making your own content then I would suggest going with Poser Pro 2012 at least (2014 if you can manage it). Pro versions are 64-bit and have added content creation tools.
The drawback is that some features in Poser 10 don't exist in PP2012, such as subD meshes. You won't have access to the newest P10 content or the comic rendering. If you want all the features of P10 with the added content creation tools then you will need to get PP2014. But you could get 10 or 2012 now and upgrade or sidegrade later.
Poser 10 and Poser Pro 2014 are both on sale here in the market place until June 30th.

In your scenario, you would have pretty much the same strand hair features in both programs.
If you are on a 64-bit system, I'd go for Pro 2012 over Poser 10 because with both editions you would have more time-saving features and better performance.
Without Poser 10, you'd be missing Raytraced Preview, Sub-D, Comic Book mode and the Fitting Room.
However... there are other means to Fit Clothes - utilities here and there, Wardrobe Wizard and using a modeler/re-rigging. Not easy, but it's there.
Comic Book mode is cool, but you can get similar results in post with a graphics application. There are also free and pay-for toon shaders at various places. There's also the sketch designer in both, that you could use as-is or composite in a graphics application.
Sub-D and Raytraced preview are dandy to have but not essential. Not saying they aren't useful - they are.
Poser Pro, you're getting 64-bit, Background Render, Render Queue, Weight-Map creation, etc. If I weigh both, I find the Pro features more useful in general.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your thoughts. I was definitely under the impression that I'm going to need Pro. Anyway, just put in my purchase. With Debut first, it should work at the budget price of slightly more than I'd already committed to. :)

(Now, to work out how to cancel the full thing from 10... although it may help that my credit card was cancelled last weekend due to fraud.)
