Youtube seems to be doing something along the same lines already. In some cases Youtube reprocesses movies to focus on the face.

The TCM 'bug' in the lower right gives a good perspective on how the process is done. Youtube seems to crop the visible result so it can move the original around to keep the face closer to center. It translates and rotates to keep the face centered and upright.
I know this was done by Youtube because I'd been watching these HiPo movies in an offbrand video server. They were ordinary straight videotapes in that environment. When their owner gave up on the offbrand and loaded them all onto Youtube, they gained this vertigo effect.
