My go to tool for any texture project is Genetia. Here is the viewer to check it out. There are several downlaodable GTX packs; node texture builds, there as well as a forum full.

I'm about the stingyest of the genetica users lol I have gigs of GTX builds, and most GTXs are under 50 meg. Of coarse most are rather macabre.

Are you using a bump or normal map? Seems like you would have the same issue with moon dust I have with snow, it's more the bump then the texture that make it look right.

Very nice.

Very nice texture !

Are you using some brushes or displacement map ?

MarkBremmer posted Fri, 17 October 2014 at 2:39 PM

@DUDU0001

The main terrain is a photoshop .tif. Then, the surface detail is another displacement map. Haven't had a chance to work on it this week but my next goal is to create some grainy specularity.

The 'micro detail' of the surface is a balancing act between small percentage noise values in blenders for highlight and shininess and ailiasing settings on render. The same exact shader settings looking completely different depending on the render settings being Fast, Good and Best. The fidelity was set to .5px in all instances.

Visually it was swings between slightly weird surface brightspots and believable small shapes.

I understand well because I was obliged once to make compositing with a same render.
A half freezed sea with formed micro waves in low resolution which did not appear in a render at 0.5 pxl.

Working in some details.

Ooooo! Cool.

It's in the gallery now but thought I'd add it here for the full progression. Now, back to the deadline I was ignoring.

Superb!
All is there, the tracks of the vehicle, the traces of impact of the box…

Bravo !

Came out really great Mark.  The landscape modeling really works here!

Mark, that is really hip. I need to give that techneque a try on snow. I have never managed a good snow shader in carrara.

Have you got a tutorial for lens effects? I see you used it there, I use it if it feels right for the scene, but I don't see it used by many carraraests.
