This is HIDEOUS!  The forum thread listings are MASSIVE fonts.

Then, when you actually try to read a post, the text is so tiny it's unreadable.

And, as usual, the stupid icons are all MIA.

no issues other than "mark all read" reverts to current forum, rather than forum list.  plus I gotta refresh page to see my post.

giant layout and big text not worries, can reduce them, but it made me re-upload avatar so it wasn't widened. :crying:

I like how it allows bigger image posts.

Thank you to the programmers for these updated and amazing forum changes. Awesome Awesome, I LOVE IT!!   These changes (like all others) are based on member feedback from survey's, forum requests, sitemail requests, emails, etc . Unfortunately no matter what there will always be some that don't like any changes and we understand but these changes were made based on mainly due to member feedback so we think that most will love them and that makes us very happy!!.  Sometimes it's a matter of getting used to new things but once given a chance it all turns good!!

Thanks again to our amazing programmers and to our amazing members who give great feedback and suggestions that allows us to continue to get better and better!!

RHaseltine posted Wed, 29 October 2014 at 3:53 PM

I agree on the size of the blocks for each post in the forum is too large - on a monitor with a desktop it's overwhelming, though it probably looks good on a phone or tablet (where the body text of the thread itself may be too small). Some scalability, whether automatic or manual, would be helpful. The little icon next to each post or thread, however, is too fussy - if it's not just, as Glitterati says, that the icons are missing. In any event it makes it harder to sport the change from read to unread - a simple blob would be better.

This is really terrible.

The large forum topic font makes it impossible to get an overview of the topics.

You no longer can use the same zoom factor for the thread list and the forum topics.

I wish you would actually use a modern PC with a large screen monitor to test these changes instead of a tablet of iPhone.

3dcheapskate posted Thu, 30 October 2014 at 5:08 AM

I was about to complain till I realized that the [Top Of Forum] button does what I wanted. But I still think that the 'breadcrumb trail' approach, e.g.

Forums > Community Center > Forum & Contest Module Changes

...is more useful.

Not a bad idea. I'll look into making this easier for you guys. Try to get it later today. It is possible now but you have to kinda know the anchor tags.  UPDATE: I added a 'Copy Link' button that will allow you to copy the link to that specific post. Then you can use that for whatever.

If inside a specific forum the 'Mark All Read' now redirects back to the forum list page, if inside a thread the 'Mark All Read' redirects back to the parent forum thread listing page. The global 'Mark All Read' from the 'Manage' dropdown redirects back to the forum list page as well.

A lot of the legacy code allowed weird sizes for avatar images, so we have to handle the different sizes by centering and zooming instead of scaling. Going forward, actually since a few months ago, avatars will resize down to 200px x 200px on upload. So if you have any weird avatar issues I recommend uploading a 200px x 200px for now until we get into the core platform and make this more apparent.

Also, you can now upload multiple images per posts!

@RHaseltine - if you are attempting to type HTML I'm stripping it. Just type your comment like you would in MS Word. If you want to insert a horizontal line use the line tool at the top of the editor.

No HTML, just one or two carriage returns between would-be paragraphs. It looks as if scripts from Renderosity and Google need to be allowed for the text box to accept multi-paragraph replies. We'll see if this post posts correctly (there doesn't appear to be a way to preview a post without actually posting). And now the text box isn't scrolling when I hit enter, until I type a character.

On a separate issue, it looks as if topics with unread replies have a coloured subject line have a coloured subject line and those which have no new replies have a white subject line. All well and good, but that means there's no longer a difference between visited and unvisited links. Better, to me, to have only a graphic marker for threads with new posts and to allow the browser's visited-link colour to serve as an indicator or threads that are being read.

@3d-Arena - We have given you the ability to change the text color and highlights though the text editor. We are trusting you guys not to go to crazy with it. If you want to change the color of your signature go edit it in your forum settings and change the color to whatever you desire, but please keep it under control. I hate lime green.

I don't like the behaviour of the "Quote" button - scrolling to the bottom of the page before opening the test entry box (But that's just a personal dislike - I bet there are people who love it!  ;o)

Opening the text entry box just under the post you're quoting seems the most logical to me.

I don't suppose we could get a link to the latest post in a thread added?

It's really annoying to have to scroll down an entire page just to see that there's been one new post.

It can't be too hard to program, since just about every other forum on the internet has that feature...

Contest Entry Form - or not...

Looks good - nice and simple. Looks are deceptive - it would be nice if it actually worked...

Terragen Classic Theme Challenge - http://www.renderosity.com/mod/contest/?ViewContest=1416 ) and click on the blue 'Submit Entry' button. A nice easy entry submission page appears.

I assume that it's just not showing the filenames. So I type my description, and hit 'Submit Entry'.

The entry submission page is loaded again, blank. Nothing to say whether the entry's been received or whether somethings gone wrong.

So I decide to post here on this thread - I click the Forums link from the top of page and get the Forum page ... with a red bar at the top saying "Thumbnail Required. Image required."

Oh dear! I just got a dialog that "We were unable to upload to your Amazon S3 account" - is that to do with my attempted upload or is it something completely different?

Are we not supposed to see (or navigate to) all the pages in the thread from the main forum section anymore?

This thread has two pages at the time of this post, but I have to go into the thread to be able to navigate to the second one.

In the Poser forum, the thread "Possible Poser 10/PP2014 Bugs" has navigation for the first 2 pages in the forum section, and is actually 8 pages long.

Kind of makes navigating more difficult, and flies in the face of the ideal of "ease of use."

It really looks horrible on a 4K screen - zoom in/out is not an option since the text font will reduce as well and worse - it affects all other websites which have normal fontsize

file_5fd0b37cd7dbbb00f97ba6ce92bf5add.jpI'm still getting just a dark grey square (Firefox 33.0.2, all plugins and addons disabled)

This might have something to do with Flash. Copying to a clipboard is actually extremely complicated and most libraries that handle this use some sort of flash/javascript mixins. I'd make sure flash is installed through your browser. Note: The flash plugin must be installed on the browser in use.
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

On a side note: AdBlocker will block .swf files if set to do so and sadly a .swf actually replaces the button behind the scenes. You can see this if you right click the button, it will actually give you an Adobe Flash Player menu instead of basic browser menu like the buttons beside it.

On a side note: AdBlocker will block .swf files if set to do so and sadly a .swf actually replaces the button behind the scenes. You can see this if you right click the button, it will actually give you an Adobe Flash Player menu instead of basic browser menu like the buttons beside it.

Why are you using flash to do this? I'm probably not the only person who browses with all plug-ins (including Flash) disabled... ...or maybe I am !?!?

A simple link in each post that link's to that post is simple HTML (e.g. the number at the top right corner of the post here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/40538/P30/#709239 or http://forum.runtimedna.com/showthread.php?94377-November-2014-Theme-Vote&p=856787&viewfull=1#post856787 - yeah, they probably use PHP or some such to create the link; but I get served plain HTML).

The user just clicks on the post number and then cuts-and-pastes the URL from the browser's address bar.

Using flash purely to put the URL into the clipboard seems akin to using a sledgehammer to crack a nutshell.

Additionally - why don't you test for the dependency before rendering the button,  Both iOS and Android do not support Flash, as an example. So the button fails to render, it's a broken box.

With flash enabled I see the 'Copy Link' button and it works fine, even with AdBlock. So this is no longer a problem for me  - at least it's quicker than opening the page source and searching for the anchor (even taking into account the time to check the Flash plugin's up-to-date before enabling it).

(and I get the added bonus of a good laugh every time I want to link to a post - and laughter is the best medicine!)

But I still think a flash-free solution would be better

And I'd still love to see a way to bookmark/link to a specific post

Not a bad idea. I'll look into making this easier for you guys. Try to get it later today. It is possible now but you have to kinda know the anchor tags.  UPDATE: I added a 'Copy Link' button that will allow you to copy the link to that specific post. Then you can use that for whatever.

This was implemented by request, we will be more efficient next time placing changes into a later release at a later date. Sorry for any inconvenience.

To answer WHY FLASH? Without flash, it's simply not possible in most browsers. The user's clipboard is a security-relevant resource since it could contain things like passwords or credit card numbers. Thus, browsers rightly don't allow Javascript access to it (some allow it with a warning shown that the user has confirm, or with signed Javascript code, but none of that is cross-browser).

Checking for dependency is not that easy either haha. We will revisit this at a later date giving us time to way the options. Thanks, again for the patience.

I disagree, a quick Google search yielded this link, which seems to work correctly (Tested IE11, FF33, Chrome 38, Android Chrome, iOS 8 Phone, iOS tablet). Also, I really dislike the new wysiwg editor. It's silly I have to open dev tools and modify the HTML in the editable div to get the formating like I want it.

@Fenier thank you again for your patience and helpful feedback. As I said before, we will revisit at a later date. We have it documented for next release.

Haven't been around in a while due to personal reasons, so I'm just now seeing this. It looks pretty bad on a smartphone. The main forum and sub-forums are like this. The actual posts seem fine.

Samsung Galaxy S5 running Chrome.

Other than this, pretty much the same issues as everyone else, namely the font size. It's overwhelmingly huge on 1920x1080.

I don't like the massive font size for the titles either, but that's probably a matter of personal taste.

However, I have two major issues with the forums as they are now, which are so serious that they significantly reduce the usefulness of the forums to me:

  1. All references to Renderosity forum threads that were posted elsewhere don't work anymore. If you try to follow those links you end up at the forum topic list.

  2. The search is completely broken. Just recently I tried to search for threads on Poser materials, using the search terms "gold" and later "water", and ended up with a long list of completely irrelevant threads, and the ones I was looking for didn't turn up.

Hi esha,

We are aware of issue number 1 and our techs are looking into it but we are also not sure if that functionality will return.   As for issue 2 did you try selecting the Poser forum first and then search the specific words?  I tried it that way and did  receive results.

I recently deleted a double-post* to this forum page http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2886654&page_number=2

Now every time I go to that page I see this:

file_ec8956637a99787bd197eacd77acce5e.jpPlease DON'T suggest that I clear the browser cache -  I'm viewing other sites on other tabs and don't want to get logged out

(I'm using Firefox 34.0)

*I say double post but it's far more complicated than that and it got me really infuriated! I wrote a new post, posted it, got the green "successfully posted" banner at the top, but still had the 'edit post' screen with my text in the edit box, and no sign of the new post being there. Even when I did a normal page reload, or opened the page in a new tab. I tried to post several times with the same effect. Then I did a forced page refresh (F5) and saw that my post had been posted three or four times. When I tried to delete the spurios posts I had a similar problem - had to hit F5 after deleting to actually see the result.

There is also something really, really screwy going on with the post editing - but I can't get to the bottom of it, and can't give a sensible summary of it here - it might be related to having different pages of the same thread open in tabs ?...

Hello, I hope it's ok to ask something about the Holiday Contest here!

Is it possible to submit in more than one category? Could I submit in photography, writing and 3D?

Thank you!

3dcheapskate posted Thu, 11 December 2014 at 11:15 PM

(hermio - I think you can enter as many categories as you want, but just one entry in each category)

Back on topic for this thread - (edit: posting this post worked fine, so I haven't really got to the bottom of the criteria for the problem...)

I now enter a reply to a forum thread (using the 'Quote' option from an existing post), hit 'Post', but I don't get a green 'post submitted successfully' message and my post doesn't show up. At least not until I do a hard refresh (F5) - Firefox 34.0 , all plugins disabled (no flash).

Can someone help with searching the forum?

I'd like to search for a specific phrase (such as the words an app uses to describe a feature).  If I use quotes (like google search allows), that breaks the search.

When I search for the phrase (without quotes), I get a bunch of individual posts that have no relation to the phrase since (I believe) the search is looking at each specific word in the search for a match.

I really rely on the search function so that I don't annoy people with a question that may have already been answered.

Thanks!

Vaskania posted Tue, 16 December 2014 at 8:06 PM

I use Google to search the forums. For example, using site:http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro "poser rigging" in Google will give me all of the Rendo forum threads that contain the phrase 'poser rigging'.

I'm a bit hesitant to complain but if that's the only solution, I'll need to reconcile that the forum has limited search ability.

I appreciate the fast response with a solution, thanks Vaskania!

Don't know how I got this when I was replying to a thread - I was just typing text and moving the mouse, so I guess it was an inadvertant mouse-click or key combination. Can't get rid of it (I guess dragging an image would do it, but I don't want to add any image to this post).  Windows 7, Firefox 34.0, all plugins disabled, a couple of extensions enabled.
