Santa Cruz, California. Nov. 18, 2014.
Today we are happy to announce the upcoming release of Reality 4: the next version of our rendering solution for Poser and DAZ Studio artists!
Reality 4 is a stand-alone program that seamlessly integrates with either Poser or DAZ Studio, providing physically-accurate rendering for those applications. Reality 4 converts materials and lights to physics-based versions, and renders 3D scenes using LuxRender, the benchmark of physical accuracy in the 3D world.
Reality 4 is a major update and it provides a unified User Interface for users of Poser and DAZ Studio. Using Reality 4, artists using Poser and DAZ Studio can retain the exact same workflow and tools when rendering their scenes. Same lights, same props and same User Interface.

Can someone dissuade me from NOT upgrading to Reality 4? I jumped on a Vue Esprit deal a few months back and I need some reason that this would benefit my pipeline.
Thanks.

I just upgraded to Reality 4 for DS 4.7 (they are on MST so it was Dec 1st there before my location). I plan on getting Poser version later.
The install process went fine. It did not ask to uninstall Reality 2.5 and it is still there and functioning.
Should I uninstall the previous version?

I purchased Vue Studio a few months back and, to be honest, I was not intending to upgrade to Reality 4 but at the $19.95 upgrade price for me it is a no-brainer. Vue is good but then Luxrender has it uses as well. I like the fact that you can change the lighting on the fly and also deal with film responses. You can do the same with Vue but at the end for the render. Reality does a good job of converting Poser Materials whereas with Vue I have found the best way to render is let Poser render the Poser part. Works well but uses a lot of resources.
As has already been stated the install process is a breeze and I was running my first render within 5 minutes of the download finishing.
I am
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

FYI, for those upgrading the Poser version, we've been instructed at the RDNA forum to delete the previous installation of Reality 3 by deleting the Reality folder from the Addons folder...which should be located inside the Python folder in your installation (usually in Program Files, unless you put it somewhere else on install).

I'll be holding off for awhile until I hear how Reality4 handles material conversion? Does it really take poser lights and convert them now, or is it still a matter of deleting them and using the lights that came with Reality, as it was with Reality3? I wasn't real keen on the trouble Reality3 had converting even moderately complex shaders from Poser. I end up spending a lot of time messing with Reality/Luxrender materials- which isn't really the way it was billed when Reality3 was released. If Reality4 is still the same way, that's fine but I'd like to know up front this time because that will be my biggest issue with an upgrade. I'm perfectly happy with Reality3 outside of the time it takes me to "re-material" all the materials and lights. If anyone can give me some kind of comparison I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I know exactly where you are coming from and I stopped using Reality 3 for much the same reason. On the other hand I did like Luxrender and at a fair upgrade price I decided to give it a go. A lot of my renders have V4 in them and I became very frustrated at having to change the image type to colour from greyscale to get a V4 render with colour rather than a white face and other parts of the body. It is early days yet but the skin interpretation is definitely improved with Reality 4. I still have black eyes but that is an easy fix. I does seem to pick up Poser lights now which is another plus. So far there is enough for me to want to have another play with Reality 4 but we will see how it goes.

I got Reality 4 today here at Renderosity, but can't use it yet. Before the install can finish, I have to input the License number, which I'm supposed to receive by a separate e-mail, and hours later I'm still waiting. Send and e-mail to Renderosity and to preta3d, no replies yet.

Paolo and company have been super responsive in the past, so have no fear that you'll hear from them. I would imagine your request is in the mountain of other requests in front of them. Frustrating I know, but hang in there.

"... and renders 3D scenes using LuxRender, the benchmark of physical accuracy in the 3D world."
Well I feel really rather pleased with myself and just a little cocky after reading that :-D
I've said a few times, I can't put my finger on it but there's something about Lux that looks better than Octane and the others. I never knew there was a benchmark as such, but it's good to hear, makes me feel like I have an extra sense of some kind!
Haven't bought R4 yet but will be doing, and yup, Paulo is very fair with his pricing so anyone on the fence would be crazy not to go for it.

Are you sure that the registration number is supplied by email. It is certainly true if you order it from the main site but I am not sure this is correct if purchased from here. I purchased Reality 3 from Rendo and the registration number was included with the order, in fact it is still there if I look at my order history. They may have changed it for Reality 4 but it may be worth checking your Rendo order.
