How to reduce 3D Scene files. How to speed up load and save times.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTDckG40qe8

A strategy to reduce your 3d scene files, using reconciliation of shaders, textures, objects and replication.

Taking careful note not to waste (include) any of these elements in your scene file will reduce the file dramatically. (Replication being the exception. That should be used often - however - even then there are limits and consequences which I explain).

Although this tutorial is aimed at Carrara users the basic principles hold for ANY 3d software package. Remember - small is beautiful here.

Just a tip to decrease save time. Carrara will render a thumb for the save with your render settings; don't know why we would need a hidef thumb, So before saving set your render settings as low as you can.

I have had several scenes where it took considerably longer; up to an hour, to render the thumb, but just a few minutes to save the scene.

Thanks for the tip. I still use 8.1. Is this a new feature in 8.5? Or is it just that I turned this off early on? (I don't get a thumb)

You have to select to create a thumb when you save. It's not automatic ;)

Stan,  I always wondered what does this option, can you explain me ?
SFF, I started to look at your tuto which interests me, but my Flash player stops the image all the time… As soon as I solved this problem, I look at it.

STAN - I wondered as much.

DUDU0001 - Might be as simple as a restart. I get it from time to time. Cheers

Scene preview is off by default. I save with them all the time because I'm lucky to remember my name from day to day happy-smiley25

Your name ?

Isn't in the "Comments" that you can write it ?

Scene preview looks to me that's an image, but where ?

manleystanley posted Wed, 10 December 2014 at 3:17 PM

It's imbedded in the scene file. If you ever wonder why a file for a small scene can be so big...
