Some time ago I came across the CG Master's website and they have some really great training product including some very useful free tutorials. Seems I missed something they were giving away during the holiday that many might find useful http://www.cgmasters.net/free-tutorials/blender-giveaway-cycles-shader-prime-elements/ I have come across 3 video tutorials on their YouTube channel describing the use of this Blender file and how you can incorporate it into your workflow. I will say the most recent video on it perhaps gets a bit overly technical and might need to watch more than once to grasp the creator’s concept. The possibility for this Blend file does seem very useful especially if you find yourself repeating the same steps when creating shader.

theres two or three of these "multi" function nodes kicking about, not watched the vids on this one yet but that may make it more useful then others ;-)
save it with startup file (as fake user) then you always have it handy (if that info is in video a reminder wont hurt )
DONT think you have to use it everywhere sometimes quick and simple works a lot better

Just out of curiosity how would you save it to your start file? I don't think that was covered in the videos

any mats in your startup file will be saved so long as you mark it as a fake user (click the F next to name )
could open "that" blend [untick load ui if you have blender set up just how you like it , bottom left on open menu]
set the mats as fake {delete the stuff you don't want } then save startup file
or append the mats into your blend then set the mats as fake then save startup file
hope that helps

glad to help :-) but be aware if you load a render speed test (eg mike pans) or a blend someone did you for instruction ;-)
