What's a good inexpensive software for creating backgrounds to use in poser?

If you want free software I would suggest Gimp. The newest version of Gimp and maybe a few older past releases accepts Photoshop Brushes.

do you want to make (3d) or paint (2d)
for 3d I'd suggest blender but theres other software that may suit you better (blender's a pita for some peeps )
for 2d have a look at krita [ https://krita.org/ ] its free and more of a painters program then gimp but again the list is huge

If you want to create 3D backgrounds ya can't get cheaper than Bryce. It's only 20 bucks at the moment and it's pretty easy to use.
For 2D any paint program will do - GIMP, MyPaint, Paint.NET are all free that I can think of at the moment....

Bryce 7 "Pro" lol.
I should have mentioned in my last post that Bryce' purpose is 3D landscapes, so it lends itself to backgrounds because it's made for that.
