Hv just downloaded a butterfly file where the models are objs. Instructions from the artist are to import the model- so I imported the obj into Poser, and then am supposed to apply the jpg file to the obj. How is this done??????
I tried copying the jpgs to the Poser materials folder with no success since Poser can't see them

Is this a model for Poser?
You apply textures in the Material room. If the model is mapped correctly then the textures will line up on the model.
You also need to refresh your library if you add files to a library folder while Poser is still running. You can refresh the library folder with the circular arrow at the left of each folder.

The problem here AS is the OP has image files for the model but clearly lacks the knowledge to apply them. Adding these image files to the Material folder is not the correct way, they will simply not show in the Poser Library. They will need to be applied within the Material Room, either under the simple or advanced tab. Better to use the advanced tab, many users prefer that method.

If you imported an obj file rather than a poser file, chances are you lack the *.mt5 material file needed to use the library. If this is the case, click on advanced tab. Right click on the material pallet (the same window or area under the tabs) to get a pop up menu. Choose new node>2d textures>image_map. A new node called image map is created. Click on image source and browse. Navigate to where you have the image saved and double click it. Click ok. now right above where it says image source, you'll see a little plug. Click and drag that plug to the plug by the diffuse color on the poser surface node. You'll need to repeat this for all the material zones for the object. You can change the material zones either by clicking on each one in the scene or near the advanced tab are 2 drop down menus you can use the material: one to access the material zones.

The image files belong in runtime/textures. you apply them in the material room by adding an image map node and connecting ot to the diffuse channel. Then click on the image map node filename bit and browse to your image file.
Once you apply the image map and made any other changes save the butterfly as a prop. It will load with the material applied.

If I'm not mistaken, and I just stumbled across this a few years ago ... but with props aren't the textures grouped with a prop rather than being in "textures" folder? Or ... either way is possible according to path?

if folder containing obj file has mtl file and jpg on same level, then poser will find and load jp when importing obj file.
if no mtl fiile, then do what they said above.
