Subject: Smart Prop Misunderstanding...

I've got a basic object prop, and I am parenting it to my figures head.  (internal name says "head" in the properties tab)

As I understand it, when I click the Plus symbol, and select it (in the subset), it should ask me if I want it as a smart prop (which I do), but it doesn't?  If I load it, it loads Parented to UNIVERSE.

Then I go to the .pp2 file and change the word UNIVERSE to "head", and save it.  I then make sure the figure is selected, and load the prop and it goes to UNIVERSE....???

How do you make a Smart Prop?  This is how I read to do it...  (Poser 9)

If you are typing the word "head" as you typed it here, that might be part of the problem. Try typing it in as "Head", capitalize the first letter and see what happens.

That does the same.  It's actually what I started with, but then I saw the head had a small letter h on the internal name.  Same results.  :(

If you use select subset, you will not get the smart prop pop-up.

It only comes up if you do NOT use select subset.

If you edit the pp2 file, you must change "parent UNIVERSE" to "smartparent head".

Load figure.

Load prop and position.

Parent prop to figure head.

Save prop to library. Do not select subset. Just the prop itself.

You will be warned it is a smartprop and will be asked if you wish to save it as such. You do.

If the prop you are working with does not have a parent, when you save it cannot become a smartprop without hand editing the pp2 as pikesPit mentioned above.

Thanks all, that worked by not choosing subset.  Also, I think I will also need to use the text editor method as well, since I need to make a prop of 3 props...which I assume I would then need to use subset...which only leaves me with the option to edit the text file.  Thanks again!!!  :)
