Subject: how to add lettering to "2009 chevy Camaro" by dreamlandmodels.

SoulTaker ( ) posted Tue, 26 May 2015 at 4:42 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 10:47 AM

Back in the old day it was easy.

But.

I am using one of the textures from  "2009 chevy Camaro" by dreamlandmodels.

on a model but I want to add some lettering to the side,

so I applied the texture and OMG what the hell where/ how do I add lettering

I don't understand what half of that stuff is for.

HELP

any one have any idea how I can do it?

the model is UV mapped if that helps.

as always thanks ahead of time

Do you have the uv template for the model? And if so, do you have an image editor that you are comfortable using?

Actually, if you have the textures you can probably forego the template.

Also, you don't understand what half of what stuff is for? All of the various texture parts?

you use blend node to put letter/transmap on top of tex colour or map.

p.s.: if BB helped DLM with those tex, then it may be more complex, e.g. alt diff tex which you can't post screencaps w/o DLM permission.

I ain't got any of his models.

There is a forum article on overlays within the last couple of weeks.

essentially do  a image of your lettering and a black and white mask.

use a blender node with the original diffuse to input 1, the image map to input 2 and the mask image to input 3.

First of all the shader is complex but only because you're mistakenly looking at all of it.

Look at the parts you want to change - they're all on the left and they're labelled.

The node that controls the color is labelled "PMC: Color".

The node that controls the stripe color is labelled "PMC: Stripe Color".

When I did the shader, nodes were smaller - unfortunately SM did a dumb thing and made all nodes taller than they used to be. There was no reason to do that. (Yes we needed multiple outputs on the Compound node - but none of the others.) So the nodes overlap each other and hide the labels. You need to click them to bring them into view.

So in general to make the shader show the color(s) you want, you set (or plug in) the colors you want. If you still want the stripes, you keep the Stripe Color - otherwise you would set/connect whatever color(s) you want in Stripe Color as well and they will look the same.

There are two material zones. (I don't know why.)

Most of the car is "PaintBody". But the hood (bonnet in UK) is "PaintWiperPos". (Ask Tom - I have no idea).

Last thing - this is the part I can't help you with.

If you want letters on the sides, I think you're going to have to redo the UV map yourself.

Tom did not UV "unwrap" the car - he just did a planar projection from above. All he was after was to make the long stripes down the center of the car.

I don't think that this UV mapping will support any coherent writing or shapes on the sides.

Here's a screen shot where I moved the two Color nodes to be more visible.

I changed them both to white instead of the yellow and black it comes in.

Then I added an image to use for the colors and connected it to both of the color inputs.

Looking down from above that looks about right.

But from the side, the projection mapping results in a distortion of the pattern.

thank you mr bagginsbill

I will have a look at this later and hopefully post an image soon.

yeah soultakr, you should remap it.  lettering works better when car mapped good, like elele's benzo.

you can also just skip blend node with BBcarpaint freebie, and plug letter img into "color map" node, which is one of user-accesible nodes (should be positioned to left of channel list, but I shifted it).
