Okay Crew

It has come to my attention that some of Powerage's products don't work in Carrara.

I own a boatload of Powerage's stuff and haven't even installed most of it yet to see if it works. So, yeah, I'm worried.

I'm going to use this thread to post what works, what doesn't and any workarounds I might find.

Feel free to post what products from Powerage works and which ones don't in Carrara.

Thanks!

First up is Powerage's Powertown...

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/powertown/101749/

This set when loaded into Carrara immediately shuts down the software without warning or notice. I have never seen anything quite like it.

Well, I played with it for a little while.

If you want to use Powertown, do the following...

  1. You cannot try to open up the complete scene, but you CAN open each item, one by one.

  2. DO NOT try to open the street layout, THIS is what seems to crash Carrara.

  3. Save each building as a Carrara scene file. Each building will appear in the place they are supposed to be.

  4. Open the Street layout in DS or Poser.

  5. Export to Collada or as an OBJ.

  6. Try to import this file into Carrara.

  7. The size will be smaller than it should adjust scale to 100%

  8. The streets and props won't have any textures, they will be all grey.

  9. You can swap out the props (street signs, traffic lights, etc,) with any of the following...[if you want textured props]

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/trafficlight-01/52427/     this one is only $3.50

This should get you up and running with Powerage's very cool city!

Thanks for the work-arounds!

Thanks tsarist for the info!

You are right, it's only the street layout that does not load properly. But the model is useless without it. I don't remember having tried the .obj or collada export/import. I will give it a try.

I have a dozen Powerage products, and I recall a problem with "Residential".  My note from some time back says Blocks 4 & 13 crash Carrara Pro 8.5, with or without vegetation.  I recall the rest of the product worked to some degree - there are 14 total blocks.  I apparently tried something that also did not work, but I don't recall what the notes mean: "H4 Zero - Crash", "H13 Zero - Crash" (note the same numbers as the blocks).   I'm heavy into another animation so will not get back to this for a while, but I hope the "Powertown" workaround may help with "Residential".

This Powerage model Red Light District 2080 works fine in Carrara.

This model Okmarius gives you a guaranteed crash.

I am on Carrara 8.1.1.12 64-bits and Windows 7 64-bits

READ THIS ENTIRE SET OF POSTS!

Residential from Powerage does NOT work in Carrara without cation and a fair amount of work.

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/residential/102579/

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD YOU LOAD THE FULL SET WITH VEGETATION!!!

It will crash your system!!!

It crashed me, then reset Carrara to default settings.

Not good.

Okay, first the good news.

You CAN safely load the full set WITHOUT vegetation.

Do this and save as a Carrara file and open the file when you want to use Residential.

The you can add vegetation piece by piece if you desire.

HOW TO USE RESIDENTIAL WITH VEGETATION (Easy method)

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/residential/102579/

Remember

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD YOU LOAD THE FULL SET WITH VEGETATION!!!

It will crash your system!!!

Okay, you can safely load some of the individual blocks with vegetation,

EXCEPT

2 ABSOLUTELY

and

3 sometimes

I NEVER got block 2 with vegetation to load without crashing my system.

but

Block 3 with vegetation crashed my system once, then loaded the second try.

So try Block 3 with Veg ONLY if you're brave.

Anyway, load each block in by itself, then tweak the shaders (or add Carrara shaders as

you see fit) Then SAVE the block as a Carrara file.

When you want to use Residential,

1.load the full scene with NO vegetation

2.Imoprt the saved Carrara file vegetation block you want to use

  1. Delete any duplicate items from the scene.

Enjoy

HOW TO USE RESIDENTIAL WITH VEGETATION (Painful method)

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/residential/102579/

Okay, you're still reading, so I guess you need the FULL version for an animation or something.

Remember

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD YOU LOAD THE FULL SET WITH VEGETATION!!!

It will crash your system!!!

When you want to use Residential,

1.load the full scene with NO vegetation

2.Imoprt the saved Carrara file vegetation block you want to use

  1. Delete any duplicate items from the scene.

  2. Import the next block

  3. Repeat step  Three

Import blocks 1, 4,5,6,7,8,9 following the above method,

then SAVE as a DIFFERENT file (trust me on this)

Then import the other blocks

then SAVE as a DIFFERENT file again.

If all went well, you should have the entire (almost) Residential area ready to rock n roll.

Hopefully, this will help you get the most out of this large set.

Let me know if these instructions aren't clear.

Wow.  That sounds like it took some effort to work out, thanks.  Strange, tho, that I had trouble with blocks 4 & 13 ...

Mythic3D posted Tue, 14 July 2015 at 5:50 PM

Village Creator 1 and 2 work in Carrara 8.5, although the ground comes in at a bizarrely large size - you either need to scale it wayyyy down and make a lot of duplicates/replicate it or adjust the texture and tile it at about 6x6 or 8x8.  The textures are a bit low-res but that's not really a loading problem. :)

MarkBremmer posted Tue, 14 July 2015 at 6:41 PM

Village Creator is awesome. I have it and only used it once on a project. But, very cool.
