One of the companies I used to work for has contacted me to give me my retirement fund as a cash one time payment. I want to use the opportunity to up my game in the photography department.  I have not had a decent camera since they went digital.  So now I am seriously looking at the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Canon EOS 7D  MarkII.  I would like to know the opinions of those who have used these two cameras.  Will the smaller C size sensor limit me when I go to buy lenses?  I am leaning towards the 7D because of the lower price and the fact that it has a magnesium alloy body.  I believe the body on the 5D is polycarbonate.  Please help me with your opinion if you have owned either of these cameras.  Thank you.

hi Dan,

given a choice between those two models, the 5D Mark II is going to give you much better performance. It will be better in low light, and you should get sharper pictures.

that being said, the lens you buy is just as important as the camera body.   something like a Tamron F2 .8 24 to 70  will give you much better pictures than a cheap kit lens. I mention the Tamron in particular because it is less expensive than the comparable Canon, and I think it's a better lens. It's the one Bill and I both use  for our walk around lens.

The smaller sensor will have no effect on lens compatibility.   as far as the  difference between a metal or a poly body,  neither  has any effect on picture quality.

hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions, and I will try to help if I can.

Uv you can have a look at this site - http://www.dpreview.com/.

They review all cameras and you can get a better insight to decide which camera you want to buy.

You can even compare both the camera's that you mentioned here against each other to decide which is the better option for you to buy.

I trust this will also help.

God bless.
