Several years ago, I was using Poser 7 on my Mac, but lost everything when I was evicted from my home and wasn't allowed to collect my belongings except for a few meager pieces of clothing and my Powerbook, which didn't have Poser loaded on it. Since then, I've been slowly rebuilding my life with an Intel Core 2 Duo Mac mini and Poser Pro 2012. I just recently upgraded to PP 2014 and Reality 4. I've thankfully been able to replenish my Runtimes with previous purchases from this site as well as DAZ3d. I'm dismayed, however, as I cannot seem to download Apollo Maximus and related files via the link I came upon at Antonkisieldesigns.com. Have those files been taken down for good, or is there an alternate site where I can download them? I really liked Apollo but never really got the chance to play around with him, no thanks to the cataclysmic upheaval in my life.
If any of you Posers know where I can find Apollo and bring him back from the dead, I would be eternally grateful. Muchas gracias!

The Apollo site is here:
http://www.antonkisieldesigns.com/~akfiles/htmlpages/ApolloMaximusFree3dhumanfigure.htm
However, the file server, DviShare, is flakey, so Anton gave permission to share the zip files provided they are not altered in any way. I put them on Google Drive for the time being, and you can get him and many of the ad-ons above here (The zip password is on Anton's site above):

WandW, thank you so much for the suggestion! I actually came across a recent thread in the DAZ3d forums about Apollo and someone (you, I think) had posted the alternate link to the files, which I was able to access and get those files. However, although I got the clothing textures and such, I did not get the actual clothing files themselves, such as the carpenter jeans, etc., etc. Were they supposed to be with the base files, or are they somewhere else? If you can tell me where to locate those, I'd sure appreciate it.
I've been playing with him for a while and am truly impressed with his geometry and poses, etc. In many ways he's far better than M4. Even all of his toes can be moved separately! I'd love to see a resurgence of third-party products and add-ons for him. Hopefully this will prod Anton into dusting him off and creating AM v.2 or something!
Boni posted Wed, 05 August 2015 at 3:35 AM
If you got the basic clothing ... most of add-ons are textures for them. These were made by Anton for Apollo. I agree in many ways he is superior to most figures out today.

Boni, I didn't get the basic clothing from the alternate download link. I thought I had gotten all of the files but when I looked in the Character library, the only thing I saw in there was Apollo himself. No clothing, so he's nekkid and cold :( I guess I better check again to see if I missed something.....
Boni posted Wed, 05 August 2015 at 3:52 AM
There are 2 packs of clothes that are separate downloads from Apollo. One a tank, sweats, socks and boots in one. And the other has a set of fantasy clothes. You may want to ask WandW how he packed up the files. It is all well worth it.

OHHHH, I am such a DOOFUS!! I went back to the link, and lo and behold, the clothing files were right there in plain sight. I completely overlooked them on my first visit and downloaded everything that was to the right of the note in there. I grabbed the clothes without further delay. Tomorrow Apollo will get some clothes! LOL Thank you!

It's well past midnight and I'm still playing with Apollo, and I have to say, I am truly impressed! He renders very well in PP2014. I can't wait to see how he does in Reality 4 and I'm gonna give it a go tomorrow after I put the poor guy's clothes away. I would love to see someone come up with a utility to convert M4 textures for AM. I would gladly pay for it!
elena_c posted Wed, 05 August 2015 at 7:42 AM
As a long-time exclusive user of Apollo, I'm very happy to see renewed interest in him. Yes, he's in some ways superior to many figures out today. All he needs is a decent weight-mapping (that I'd be happy to pay for, even).
Back during the days when the forums at contentparadise still existed, Anton was developing Apollo 2.0 and getting close to finishing him when the forums disappeared, and Anton with them. I've been looking for alternatives to Apollo's versatility ever since, but no joy.

His page is rather wonky as I got ad bombed right away and I hate those downloading sites like Divshare. You just made my life a lot easier. For anyone that hasn't figured out how to download, look for the arrow above each file. The password is cough cough...sorry, you'll have to search through his page.
By the way, I found 161 items for Apollo Max! Treasure rediscovered!

Elena_c, your render of Apollo is awesome! How'd you get the specular highlights in his eye whites? Was this rendered in DS or Poser? I did a test render of Apollo last night with SS turned on. I deleted the default Poser lights and used one of Apollo's lights, "MyFavRayTraced", and it turned out very well, except for the fact that his right eye seems to be blind, LOL. I'm trying to figure out how to fix that in the meantime.
I was also extremely impressed with the sheer number of quality poses that are included with the base figure. In comparison, DAZ has historically been rather stingy with poses for the Millennium figures, even in their Pro bundles. It's amazing to me that, for all the hard work that Anton put into developing AM and his add-ons, that he was always free to the Poser and DS communities. Had he been put out there for sale, with all the add-ons included in the bundle, he probably would have cost about the same as the DAZ M4 or M5 Pro bundles.
I am going to work on fitting M4 hair to AM today and see what I come up with. This is gonna be fun! By the way, here's my first AM render in PP2014

Go to the materials room with Apollo selected, click on the materials from the library tab on the right. Scroll down until you see the folder that says "ApolloZeusFX_IrisMaps". Then select one of those eye colors and double click on it. This will install that shader on the eye and fix the problem.

elena_c posted Wed, 05 August 2015 at 2:37 PM
Anim8dtoon, thanks! That render was done in Poser, years ago. I used to re-do the eye materials and added in reflections so they gave off these highlights. Apollo was originally made in 2005, before Poser 7, and the versions before it faked reflections, so the materials for the figures did, too. First order of business: delete reflection maps and add in reflections in the reflective materials like corneas and eyewhites. (Nowadays, I use Octane for rendering, which has no need for faking anything.)
And, no, Apollo was not always free. It was before my time, but I remember talk about him having been for sale for close to 100 bucks before Anton decided to give him to the community.

I then went into the Pose library and used the white MAT pose to remove all of his textures and then re-applied them. He's still half blind. Anyone have any ideas on fixing this?? Hi. Two things you could try for your blind eye. 1. Try moving any light that shines on that portion of the face, as that could be caused by a bright light.

@Anim8dtoon I get the same thing in his right eye but only with the default Apollo textures. Running them through EZSkin 2 definitely fixes it as you can see in the image. Surprisingly none of the other characters have this problem like Keith or Talus or Maquah. And yes, Poserworld has some cool stuff for him. A tip for the dynamic clothes though, DON'T hide the genitals because they will still be calculated. It's best to pose them so that they are not visible and allow the simulation to collide with them.
Here's an image using Lee Moon's Moontoons for AM, specifically JungleDude in this one. I have no idea if they are still available anywhere. Oh, and don't forget people that AM is supported in Poser's face room.

Peeps, just last night I came across a treasure trove of AM goodies on ShareCG and grabbed them for my runtime. Angela3D has 200 faces for AM, half of which are for the Cole character by Carodan. There's also two very nice texture packs, a female body morph pack with ethnic variations, and a themed collection of poses. Just log into ShareCG and run a search by typing 'Apollo Maximus' into the search field and the links will come up. I can't wait to try some of these today. WHOO HOOO!

I've always been an Apollo fan and it was a shame that the definitive version was never released. It is is, in my opinion, one of the best male Poser figures ever released. For some reason I never had problems with the eyes, but I have a lot of 3rd party maps for Apollo--I pretty much bought almost everything I could find. You know, sometimes the Vintage figures can still render great images, I still like Michael 2, with good texture maps he's a very versatible figure without complicated morph injectors. But getting back to Apollo, Poser World used to have a decent selectionn of clothing for him. You might want to check there, they frequently have specails.

Boni, it turned out the texture was missing from the soft tissue, that for whatever reason it wasn't automatically applied. (I didn't even know what part of the body "soft tissue" referred to, so I'd been ignoring it. I figured it out by turning the diffuse color to green.) I'm not familiar enough with the material room to know which nodes are "extra"; I deleted everything except the basic diffuse and they turned black. :( I usually render in Reality, it's easier and it looks better, but I'm having the same problems there, so I'm not sure it's a material room issue, but here are the node settings for the sclera.
Boni posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 4:39 PM
Based on a problem (solved by bagginsbill) with the "ring" issue with V4 eyes this seems similar. The edge of the map for the sclera meets the edge of the map for the iris. A mask needs to be applied that would give a soft gradient transparency between the two that overlaps. That would alleviate the issue. I don't have the time at the moment. But if someone is ambitious it would take care of the situation. Heck, I might work on it next week myself.

Is anybody else having trouble uploading images to the forum? I'm doing the exact same thing I've always done, but it doesn't work, so I'm wondering whether the forum is having issues or it's just my computer or what. I wanted to attach an image to show that this works, but you'll just have to take my word for it. It was surprisingly very helpful.
I recently did a TDMT match between Apollo and M4. I matched the head and the eyes. Then I transferred all the morphs from M4's eyes. (It's how I made the cat eyes in the TDMT thread.) The morph that is relevant here is called "EyeIrisAlign." It's from the M4 base, so no morph package is required. This actually moves the line around the iris. On Apollo I have it set at -.42. I can't legally share the morph, but I can share the TDMT file that I used to transfer it, when I figure out what I should do with it. You would need to have M4 for it to work.

Good to hear you still tinker. I've only fired up Poser a couple of times this year - had a chaotic house move - so I'm a bit out of practice. New version of Poser in the works too I hear!
For anyone not too familiar with Apollo, I highly recommend working his face with the morph-brush. I always found his face above all other figures responded to that particular tool. At one time there was also a face-room add on for him (can't remember whether that made it onto the free files list or even still works). Anton always said he morphed 'like butter'.

Hi Boni. Problem I have is like that scene at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark - there's a cardboard box in a room, surrounded by other boxes all the same size & shape, in which there's a storage drive with all my old Apollo files. It was a chaotic move to a new house which we're in the middle of renovating.
That said I'd still be up for supporting Apollo if the demand is there, especially with morphs. I'd probably prefer to do custom morph-brush head sculpts these days, but so long out of the software I'd need help getting those into a pose-ready file (I used to do PMDs but my documentation for all that is long gone).
I'll keep digging to see if I can find any of my old stuff in the cloud. I did about 4 or 5 freebies - mostly ADS morph pose sets but also some miscellaneous PMD morph/character sets. Some were better than others. There was a wrinkle displacement map in one (still have that in a texture bin on this PC) that I used for my older characters. I think the werewolf and the alien were put up too. Frankly if they've become unavailable due to hosting changes etc and anyone just has these sitting on their system I'm more than happy for them to be shared (probably need them myself!).
Last contact I had with Anton was on FB some years ago - he'd definitely 'moved on' from 3d at that point but who knows eh.

Good to know all the background ... I'm currently in contact with Anton and there is a hint of interest from him to ... spark, if we have enough interest. He just doesn't want to let things get set in stone at this point. So nothing is for certain, but not out of the realm of possibility. Sorry to be so cryptic, but that's what he prefers at this time. That is why I'm keeping this thread going. To present to him as a ... temptation.

I've actually just found one of the dev files I was working on for a handful of head sculpts. Some have head/neck transitions so if there were likely to be any changes to topology or rigging that would affect what I'd already done I'd need to know. Definitely up for creating some refined head (& possibly body) morphs though. Would love to see Apollo weight-mapped.

The part I find incredulous is that a hairdresser didn't do that many hair props. He's arguably more qualified than most 3D developers to rule that market.

Actually Anton is the ultimate Renaissance Poser man. He did everything from modeling humans, creatures, plants, props, hair, morphing, texturing, lights, clothing, you name it and he's done it. Back in the P4 days the first things I got from PFO fun stuff (as it was called then) and from the Props Guild were from Anton. And when he took on the Platinum Club most of the items on offer there were by him not to mention his involvement with V3 who was nothing like the previous Millennium woman. If only SM had the brains to have him create the next Poser characters and related content.

Hi mackis3D, Thanks! Yes, the displacement map I'm using comes with Apollo; it's in the texture folder and is, I think, automatically loaded if you use the material room to load body maps. I haven't rendered in Poser for a while, though, so I'm not sure.

Hi there quietrob! If you're talking about the morphs in my renders, the answer is yes (sort of.) You can download my MoonToons morph poses here in Freestuff. However, you need to have the Cole morphs for Apollo to make them work properly. I'm not sure if Cole is still available or not (the vendor is Capsces.) Beth's morph work for Cole is amazing. My MoonToons poses only set the parameter dials to create the various characters and as such rely on both Anton's original morphs for Apollo as well as Beth's Cole morphs.
On another note, the Matthew Rush morph is not included with the MoonToons morph pose pack. Perhaps if there was enough interest in it, I might release that morph pose separately.
Anyway, I hope some of you will find the MoonToons morph poses interesting and use them to create your own cool characters. I'd love to see what you all come up with. :-)

Hi. Apollo includes 17 expressions - you can view them by selecting his head and they are listed next to the dials starting with Exp. So ExpEyesFear; ExpSmile01 etc etc..
Carodan included some expressions in some of his free morph sets - his website is down but you can get the sets from the wayback machine site here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20080701035608/http://carodan.blackraven3d.com/
the PoserAddicts internet store has some expression sets available for sale - Just type apollo maximus in the search box on the left of their store web page and look for expression or mood sets by Ixdon, RxD, Teris and Yve.
Sadly quite a few of the Apollo Maximus free items listed in the Renderosity Freestuff section have dead links.

The material setting I have used for each skin part is based on Poser12's new PrincipledBSDF node:
As actually Poser hasn't yet a Cycles preview, such as Blender's Evee, I'm using that good old EZSkin3 to poser the character. When I'm ready to render, I switch the skin nodes to Cycles. I'm doing it using a Python script.
But honestly, you don't need such a script. I mean: store a standard MC6 material for your character, the time to pose him/her, and then load your Cycles-based MC6 material when you're ready to render.
The difficult part for me had been to find the right balance these two parameters of the PrincipledBSDF. The three comma-separated values are inspired from your best friend when it comes to Poser's doc: here.
Lower too much the three Radius values and you will lower the SSS effect, rise too much the SubSurface unique value (here 0.005) and your character will end up white, almost as a ghost.
I have tried to play with the Roughness, the Specular and the Anisotropic parameters, but I haven't found a satisfying effect. That's why I'm using a second layer:
"Gloss Level" is just a MixClosure, and "Gloss Effect" is the AnisotropicBSDF node.
The Gloss Level's Fac parameters lets you raise/lower the quantity of gloss. Too high, depending on the lighting, you'll end up with your baby oiled....
For what I've understood: raise the Anisotropy parameter to have elongated highlight, whereas the Roughness controls... the roughness of the surface: a mirror = 0, raise to make your surface more and more look like sandpaper.
As you've guessed, both parameters are important to control the quality of the gloss.
If you want to test different skins, don't forget the drag and drop upon each bitmap node, that will let you replace in one click all the same bitmaps with the new one.
