Hi guys,

I seem to remember having this issue years ago and it was caused by ambient occlusion or something but can't remember?

I've tried everything I can think of to fix it, been searching the web and these forums for a solution but with no effective solution found.

I have a sneaking suspicion this is easily fixed and just about everyone all at once is going to give me the answer LOL.

See below for details: This is the issue I am having and it happens in a variety of scenery with a variety of lights and with V4, M4 and Genesis figures. In this scene there is one single point light set up as shown and rendered as shown.

Amy ideas?

First try rendering without ray traced shadows. If the artifacts clear up without shadows you'll know this is the culprit..Typically polygonal shadowing artifacts such as I see in your example are caused by a too low min bias rate on your shadow light. Looking at your setting of 0.800 contradicts this as it's a relatively high setting, usually those kind of artifacts begin showing up at settings of less than 0.200. Still, experimenting with Pixel Samples or Min bias rate might reveal something. You might try test rendering with a min bias rate of around 0.350 and see if the artifacts get worse or better. As far as AO... have you tried disabling AO on your scene/materials to determine if that's actually the cause?

Hi EldritchCellar, I have indeed tried disabling AO and the artefacts still occurred.

I'll try what you say and report back

Just another thing I noticed with your render settings... If you are using indirect light in Poser, AO is unnecessary. Basically all AO does is emulate shading brought about by global illumination. With IDL you have real GI, so AO is redundant. Also, with IDL, you'll probably want to lower your IC (irradiance cache) to a value of 32 or in that region.

Here's the settings I use for final renders & I never have issues with my final renders.

Try these settings on the light:

Hi 3D fineries,

Thanks for that. Just tried those settings and so far no artefacts.

Also, big thanks to EldritchCellar. I found alot of the info you posted very useful.

Regards

Martyn
