It's our new challenge. And, thanks to attorneys, it's called Space Wars.
Kixum is way ahead in this one. But he's totally ineligible to win anything. This leaves room for YOU to sweep in and take it all. What do you win? Probably nothing but maybe being mentioned in the Renderosity Magazine plus bragging rights.
Post your entries back in this thread. Two week deadline, give or take a couple of days, but probably give. Pretty much, just have fun. Be a fan-boy, or be absurd. It's all legal. That's the rules.
Oh, in case you haven't seen this, it's pretty funny: https://twitter.com/KyloR3n

This is not the challenge I was looking for. :)
But strangely I had an idea just last night that fits the theme, so I'll see if I can make it work.

@diomede, I can see it now, a dark backlight silhouette of a hooded figure, with a certain snout showing from under the hood.

Thanks. I fretted a little about mixing things floating in space with gravity (for the lifting crane), then decided to heck with it. If Star Trek TNG can have Geordi and friends walking through walls, but walking on the floor to get to them, then I can have gravity where I need it.
Looks like Darth's porcine relative needs a New Year's resolution to lose a little weight. OTOH, he might get spiral sliced by that white light saber, make a nice New Year's day meal.

Great stuff guys. Here is a quick kit-bashed Tattoine dreamer. Fitted the David 3 cowboy pants and boots plus an M4 karate top to genesis and added some Carrara hair.

We all know that the classic MSE-6 "Mouse" Repair Droids are the real heroes of the Star Wars universe, so I thought I'd show them off here in a fake magazine type ad. Everything modeled and rendered in Carrara, post-work in Photoshop.

A little something I've had in storage for a while. Finished it last night. For those who are old enough to know, there are lots of weird things in this render.
Millenium Falcon (duh).
Old School wind up robots
George Jetsons Car
Colonial Viper (1980's Battlestar Galactica)
Cylon Raider (also 1980's Battlestar Galactica)
Fay's Zip Ship (Cowboy Bebop)
Oh yeah and my new T70 Xwing I just finished.
Everything you see modeled and rended by me, 100% Carrara.

Kixum posted Sat, 02 January 2016 at 3:21 PM
I did render this using motion blur (sorta kinda an animation), but no more than just a single frame planned at the moment. It was fun to make. I set it up in about an hour and it took about three hours to render.

This one might be pushing the theme a bit, but I thought I'd share it anyway. :) I just had this weird idea last night while watching a tutorial on making a TIE fighter and couldn't stop laughing (might have been lack of sleep too) so I got up this morning and made this. I should probably have spent more time on the UV map because you can see where the texture kind of randomly changes directions, but it was such a quick one-off model that I just didn't feel like spending the extra time to carefully unwrap it. I am kind of happy with how the crowd came out though; that's just a spots texture multiplied by a color gradient and applied to a cube - I think with the blur it actually looks surprisingly like a large group of people back there.

Plus, I got to play with Depth of Field and Glare, which I don't always use.

Oh sure, nobody picks the same image. And, now I have to be the tie-breaking vote. It's lonely at the top but the food is better.
Since these, and even the ones not mentioned such as Diomede, are sublime, I'll have to go with Steve K's Cygnus 4. Why? It is very imaginative and while I enjoyed the framing and rendering of the other efforts, whimsey wins the day. Because of that, Fill 'er Up was a close, close second.
Well done.
Steve, HopeAndLove will be in touch for the Renderosity Magazine info.

Regarding another challenge, one of my favorite genres is Steampunk, "a subgenre of science fiction and sometimes fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery." Several of my favorite vendors at Renderosity (1971s, jonnte, Cybertenko) have 50+ Steampunk items each, and I own about 60 total items from those three. So how about a Steampunk challenge (if it hasn't been done for a while), or just Victorian if you prefer. On a related note, the 2014 Oscar for Best Short Animation went to "Mr. Hublot", a Steampunk style dramedy:
