Subject: Genesis 2: Can it Add New Morphs to Figures Already Saved?

Dial up a character using existing installed components of Genesis 2.

Save it.

Install something new, like a morph set.

Load the character: it's missing the new morphs.

List all the dial settings, load a new Genesis 2 base: it has the newly loaded morphs available. Hand dial according to the list. Now I have the same dialed character in a version with the new morphs available.

Is there a way to get the new morph set into the already dialed and saved character?

I usually just save it again under a different name. If it's still not saving correctly try saving the morphed character alone as a scene.

The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

That doesn't answer the question. Maybe I wasn't clear on the scenario.

Load Genesis 2 Male. Dial a character. Save the character by using the + button at the bottom of the library panel.. Then install something like Poke Away 2.

Reload the already saved character. Poke Away 2 isn't part of it.

Now I have to make a list of all the dialed settings, load a new Genesis 2 Male, re-dial everything. Now this one includes Poke Away 2. Save it.

Woops, I found another useful morph set. Install it. Oh no, the old saved character doesn't include the new morphs. Repeat the copy process. Save that new character.

Is there a way to inject morphs into an already existing saved character: one that was saved before installing that new morph set?

The problem isn't saving it under a name. The problem is having to re-dial all the morphs.

You cannot add new morphs to an already saved Genesis 2 in Poser. You will need to re-import the figure through DSON for those morph dials to appear. The only solution to your issue, load the Poser saved character into your scene, import a new Genesis 2, select the Poser figure, Edit>Copy, then select the imported figure, Edit>paste. The new morph dial settings will appear in the new figure. Dial in your new morphs.

Ah I didn't realize you meant to save it to your library. Sorry. I thought just saving it as a scene to reopen. Hborre is correct.

V4 behaves this way as well; it's not unique to Genesis...

Editing to clarify; if you add a V4 morph package such as V4 Elite Morphs, they can't be added to a saved figure because the morph channels don't exist in the saved files...

I probably didn't notice it with older figures, because I haven't installed any new morphs for those for a long time. I just work with what I have for the Generation 4 and 3 stuff.

I'll add that the DSON import action of the G2F creates the large object saved in the PZ3/PZZ, and it will include all the G2F morphs you have in your data directory ... so be aware that various 'new' characters (or once were new) like G6 or N6 or TJ6 can add up to 1/4 MB of morph dials each EVEN if the morph is not active. So for example, I create a Caille6, and low and behold, she comes with all of the G6, A6, V6 dials (& would have B6, TJ6, O6, N6 had I not removed).

I guess this makes sense if I want to create a C6, then turn c6 off and dial her to be a TJ6 auto-magically ... but I'd thought one applies pose files to add such bulk ... but, that's not the case. Oh well. it is what it is. Last time I cleaned up my data file, I ejected most of the misc x6 forms I don't use. For example A6 with 'growing up' can be a TJ6 or B6, so those have no value. As a 'reduced %' C6 can be a G6.

So the relevance to this thread is adding new items to the data directory after the fact does NOT update the base character in your PZ3/PZZ.
