I'm going through your $3.50 clearance sale. It shows up as 64 pages for me. I started late Friday 7/1 and now as of 7/4 still haven't managed to review all the items.
Renderosity and some vendors such as 'Wolfie' may be missing out on purchases because they make add-ons for other products such as hair or clothing. Very often I would like these add-ons, but I just don't have the time to check to see if I own the base item when reviewing the sale. Sometimes, too, the add-on shows better promos than the original, and I have on occasion bought the add-on while waiting for the original to then go on sale because of what I saw in the add-on promo.
May I suggest:
(1) An icon or button with every product that is an add-on that indicates whether the user already owns the base product.
(2) Regularly rotate a discounted clearance section of add-ons that is smaller and easier to go through; perhaps 1/8 the number of items you are currently offering at $3.50. That would be 8-10 pages instead of 64 pages of items. Right now I'm averaging 2-3 items per page that I would like to buy at the clearance price and for this sale I have to get that down to 10-20 items maximum, probably closer to 10-15. That means there are probably close to 100-130 items I won't buy but that I would be interested in buying (perhaps in the near future) if I had more time or money. Add-ons go to the bottom of the list, especially when I have to check to see if I own the base product. The fact that I wait for items to go on sale doesn't mean you will cannabalize full price items. I only buy full price items when I am working on something specific. The rest are speculative and for fun 'maybe's' to round out a library. If 'Clearance' items are truly being removed permanently from the store, you are losing out on a lot of sales opportunities.
(3) Put a simple mechanism to show the tree, say of a hair or clothing item and all its add-ons, and ideally whether they are owned.
(4) Change the color of the shopping cart to distinctly show if an item is owned. I noticed it appears to go a different shade of green when the item is owned, but the colors are currently too close to notice a real difference.
(5) Do something for PRIME that makes clearancec items - especially the ones not likely to return - less expensive than $3.50. At least someone will be using them rather than having them sit lonely on a dusty corporate hard disk.
