Have Yosemite, and running Carrara 8.5 will little problems (well maybe a bug here and there). Does anyone know if I can safely download the latest Mac OS 10x? Also, has anyone heard of future development plans for Carrara? 9.0? I just don't want to loose this wonderful program.

What follows is just my opinion.

I simply LOVE Carrara. But I no longer place any trust in DAZ as a company and in their intentions.

It seems to me that DAZ bought Eovia's programs only to prevent Smith Micro from obtaining them and to basically bury the software. Carrara 8.5 is buggy. The 32bit v8 is more stable.

While I agree that DAZ makes the best human figures, I'm still staying with Poser Pro and am replacing Carrara with Lightwave in my workflow.

It looks to me like DAZ doesn't want to play ball with or be compatible with any other company's software.

@ Artformz2: As wonderful as Carrara may be, it is a dead piece of software. Expecting a Carrara 9.0 release is a lost hope. In fact I don't think there will even be minor Carrara 8.5.x.x releases anymore. Since you are on a Mac, Cheetah3D is the obvious alternative. For $99.- it offers so much more than Carrara does, that not using it would be missing 80% of the fun.

@ galaxiefilm: I agree with you that there is a lot to like in Carrara, but I am also quite uncomfortable to have an extended 'love affair' with a corpse. I also agree with you about Lightwave as Carrara replacement. The Lightwave UI isn't all that bad and, at only $695.-, it's really in a class far above Carrara's.

The rig I run Carrara on is old enough that it won't upgrade to OS X 10.1

I'm interested to hear what happens. My work machine has had no issues with other older software running, but I simply don't have Carrara installed on it.

Thinking of the free upgrade to Mac OS Sierra. Who knows if Carrara with work with it? I recently bought Strata 3D, and while they have done everything possible to make that program user friendly, it's just not Carrara, and I find I can't be nearly as productive as quickly. I'm used to thinking about art, not struggling with an interface. And so far, the renderer has nothing on Carrara's. Come on Daz!

Love that comment above " I agree with you that there is a lot to like in Carrara, but I am also **quite uncomfortable to have an extended 'love affair' with a corpse. **

Unfortunately, I think it is safe to** say we will NEVER * see a Carrara 9 or even tweaks from Daz.. But despite its dismal future I'm sure users will get many more years pleasure and production from it. It remains formidable as is. The plugins people have been kind enough to make available -mostly free - extend it's features significantly so here's hoping there will eventually be more plugins for things like like fluids & mesh destruction [ just two of my wishes].

Someone mentioned "cheetah" for mac as being bettered featured but I didnt see in its feature list - plant creation, terraines or atmospheres and clouds. And is there a way you can animate speech in Cheetah - as done with Carrara's mimic plugin ? is it any good with daz characters ? What about dynamic clothing ?

I agree. I don't see any program with comparable features, in particular seamless support of widely available Poser format content, including figure animation entirely within Carrara. I.e. no "Poser Fusion" required, which I understand requires the animation to be done in Poser.

I mentioned "plugins" in my above post - Fenric [ creator of many useful add ons ]seems to have closed his store ? Any one know why and can his products still be purchased ? Cant see any links on his site http://fenric.com/wordpress/downloads/ This page allows you to download trial versions but how to buy the key ?

Hello, I'm new to the forum, but have an older version of Carrara (Carrara 4 Pro) I bought and used with my older Mac G4. Now that I have a Mac Pro,which is an Intel machine running El Capitan, I'd like to upgrade to the new version (Is it v. 8?). I have my serial number used to register with the former owner, Eovia, but see that the current one is DAZ, if not mistaken. Please advise, with thanks.

The current version is 8.5 Pro, here is the link:

You'll probably have to check with DAZ on the serial number/upgrade question. You can contact them here:
