Subject: How to create a "Runtime Folder"?

I've searched for answers in previous threads, but haven't found anything that plainly lays this out in a way that I understand (possibly I'm just slow on this).

I just purchased Poser 11 with the PICK Ultimate Bundle and the Poser Content Super Bundle. For performance I have Poser 11 installed on my C drive, but it's a small (relatively speaking) hard drive so as part of the installation process I had it install the content on my D drive. So far, so good. But the bundle stuff says to unzip into sub-folders in the Poser application folder. I'd prefer not to do that if possible.

What I want to do is unzip the PICK and other super bundle content onto my D drive. I know that Power won't let me add any folders unless they are a "Runtime Folder", but I haven't been able to do this in a way that Poser recognizes. Could someone help me out with step-by-step instructions on how to do this?

Some content, particularly Python scripts must be installed to the Poser application folder for it to work correctly. With that said to install to a remote location you will need to perform the following steps:-

Create a new folder on your desired drive. Suggest not using the word "runtime" in the folder name. "My Extra Poser Stuff" good, "My 2nd Runtime" not so good. This because some Python scripts will search a file path for "runtime" and get confused if the path is "My 2nd Runtime/runtime".

Extract the downloaded content zip file to your new folder. This assumes that the zip has been created with the correct folder structure. Pretty much they all are.

In Poser go to the library panel and click the "+" Add Library icon.

Navigate to your new content folder, "My Extra Poser Stuff" in this example. Click the OK's

Your new library should now be accessible in the Library panel.

Hope that helps.

As Phil C says above for making a PoserStuff folder, however to plan ahead I would make a sub-folder (SM for example) and extract to that. This will allow you add extra subfolders and runtimes in the future that are easy to flip between and search as you add more content (its surprising how quick you add stuff). Think of a runtime as a reference book you can pick up and browse through- the less pages the easier is to find what you want.

If you are a Windows user then you can right click on a runtime folder and 'Open with Explorer' to get a standard explorer window to drag/drop/rename/delete stuff.

Thanks, guys.

So I followed Phil C's steps above, and unzipping all the PICK content appears to have put everything in the expected folder structure. Poser 11 now will me add the "Extra Poser Stuff" folder as a library...but it has no content. I followed the steps exactly, but maybe I'm doing something wrong?

When I purchased the PICK Ultimate from YURI it was zips inside a zip. If this was the case with you I assume you unzipped to a temp folder first.

Using Explorer you should see a Runtime folder inside Poser extra Stuff

Inside Runtime you should see Geometries, Libraries, Textures and probably Pick Manual

Inside Libraries you should have Props and Materials folders with a PICK folder in both

There will be more folders inside all of the above

Using POSER there will be a PICK folder in the Props and Materials sections only and folders inside these

Any problems then you can delete everything in the Extra Poser Stuff folder and extract again. Poser does a scan at start up for any changes to its runtimes.

By default Windows lets you use zip files as folders- the icon is the same until you install WinZip or 7Zip etc. Poser cannot read them

I did that, and all the proper subdirectories are there. I don't understand why the assets aren't showing up in Poser itself.

Have you tried installing anything else to this new runtime? Have a look in the Free stuff here and download the Detective gear by Richabri then try that. it should make a new folder in Props called Detective- it works OK on my system.

What are you using to unzip your stuff??
