My poor hard drive is running out of space. I have purchased a new external HD and was wondering can I just move my DS runtime etc to it or do I need to reinstall everything? Or do I install DS on that drive and then just move the content/settings over?

You also need to tell Daz Studio where you moved the libraries. I believe it is under the menu item Edit->Preferences->Content tab->Directory Manager->Content Directory Management Button

I am not sure if you are using Smart Content what changes need to be applied for that, if any.

Jack is correct. I've moved bunches of stuff around like that. Not sure about smart content either, I don't use it. I do know if you change the folder location even on the same drive smart content will not work for what you moved. If you are using the DIM you also need to point that to where you want the files installed, that is separate from D/S
