So today I was working some more on a character (after finally finding render settings that I liked) and I came across a problem (again). All of my characters have this black line on the outside on the right eye. I have checked everything that I thought might have been causing it: the eye texture, the lacrimal texture, the eye socket texture, etc. Does anyone know what might cause this? Sorry for all of the threads lately, just trying to figure out poser better.

is this your own texture?
Does it happen with the default eyes for this character?

The texture is one I made, but it is basically the same as the default (I just used an art program to change the iris color). It is also doing this with the default eye texture. I tried rendering just plain Alyson (since I used Alyson as the base for my character) and it has even worse black lines (picture below). Is there something wrong with my render settings, or do all renders using Alyson have this?

I just checked my Poser 11 Pro with Alyson loaded into the scene. From what I determined, using the default lights with depth map shadows causes the abnormal artifacts in the eyes region. I would delete the default lights and create one infinite light with ray trace shadows. For me, the change corrected the render in Firefly.
Edit: I spoke too soon. Apparently, there is a problem with the way shadows are cast on the eye material. Closer examination of the textures in the Material Room reveal no reflection for the eyeball or cornea. The material shaders absolutely suck, IMO.

My recommendation, go to the Material collection and apply the Alyson Ultimate material. That should correct your issue. I am examining other options, but unfortunately my system if having problems rendering Firefly with SSS. I normally render in Superfly these days.

Thank you for trying to help. I tried using the Alyson ultimate material but it didn't remove the black line. I'm going to go try some different lighting today to see if that helps.

The only option left is to obtain Snarly's EZSkin script which will modify the skin texture shaders for more realistic renders. You haven't mentioned which Poser version you are using so I can steer you in the right direction.

I'm using poser 11.

I was going to say this looked like a shadow problem as it spills out onto the face one both eyes. As usual hborre has identified the problem and the answer. I think with Poser 11 you need EZskin 3.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Yes, EZSkin 3 is compatible with Poser 11 and is the best option to correct the problem as I stated in the previous post. Off-hand, there was a sticky in the Poser forum which connected to Snarly's site but it isn't there anymore, Try a forum search going back, at least, 2 years. Otherwise, let me know if you are interested in the script and I will hunt it down.
Edit: Actually, you will find it at CGbytes, free item in their store.

Just tried it out today and found out that Alyson is not a supported figure by EZSkin

That is not a problem. You can create those definitions yourself, save and apply. You just need to select the proper settings for each body part.
Edit: If you need instructions just ask, I can gladly give you more details. Which Ezskin version did you pick up?

Thank you, I'm going to try again today. I am pretty sure that I have EZSkin3.

After trying this myself, I might need those instructions. I ran the python script, chose EZSkin, got it up on poser, saved it, but now I can't figure out how to apply what I saved to my figure.

Just figured out how to add it. Do you know what parameters I should change on the eyes to make it work? I applied the material but nothing looked different.

With some figures, the arrangement of the eye mats vary, depending on the way they are constructed. The attached image shows the shader arrangement for Alyson.
The category settings below are for Superfly rendering:
The second image is for Firefly:

Another thing, you should have an environment sky dome with an HDRI attached to give the eyes something to reflect. Otherwise, you will get a blank, dead expressiong.

Quick render using Superfly, EZSkin3, and EZDome.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this because I haven't read the replies, yes I know, bad me lol.. I had this black line as well and it drove me insane, all I did was change the focal length of the camera being used and it fixed it, don't ask me why, or how, it just did.. So if you're still having problems, give that a go, If memory serves I made it around 300 or so, I had to adjust the screen but it was a quick and easy fix
