i own a copy of Poser 11, now just in case the CD would break, or something like that, could i download it from SmithMicro for free.

As long as you register your product ID number you should be able to do that through the download app from SM. You can get more information at their Graphics Forum. Hope this helps.

Copy your CD to a flash drive as well ... keep a reserve copy.

There actually is a Smith Micro Downloader for updating poser as well. It'll ask you for your serial number.
