I was looking at a shader in blender today that I had found online and saw this intersection. What is it and what is it used for?

As far as I can tell, it's a bit of a noodle-reducer. You can run a connector directly from one output to multiple inputs, or run one output connector part of the way, then branch to multiple inputs... this just helps with traffic control.
