Here is a trailer for our entry into the Houston 48 Hour Film contest, "Highway Closure". We drew the genres "Mystery" and "Romance", both less than ideal ("Comedy", "SciFi", etc.) But as they say, the show must go on. The complete 4 minute video will be uploaded after the local theater screenings.

A little explanation: In years past a team got a genre from about 15 major genres (drama, comedy, etc.) If they didn't like it, they could draw a "wild card" genre from another list of 15 less common genres (road movie, superhero, time travel, etc.), but no going back. The only pair was "Musical or Western" in the first group, since neither are very easy for live action teams (dancers, singers, composed songs ... horses), or animation teams for that matter. Starting last year, teams drew two genres, basically one from each list, and could do either (or both if gutsy). We did the Mystery, but not the Romance.

Are the screenings just in one location, like Houston, or are there other locations as well?

All 32 Houston films will be screened in one night, 28 June, at the TBH Center, in two groups of 16 films each, 7:00 and 9:30. The audience votes on their three favorites in each group, resulting in the Audience Award. Then the "Best Of" judges selections will be screened on 26 July at the same place. The best films worldwide are screened at "Filmapalooza", the last one in Paris, France in March of this year. Some are also shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

Yes, Houston is having a Horror 48HFP in October also. I'm trying to decide if I want to do it, Horror is not a favorite genre of mine. There are 26 total horror genres (list below), of which each team gets two to pick from. I dunno, still mulling ... I've got till 10Sept to sign up at the low early bird price.

Yes, "Dark Comedy Horror" is one of the genres, plus they encourage mixing genres. So even if you draw something else, putting comedy in it is a plus.
BTW, I did sign up, and since I'm not too into the Horror genre, I'll probably make it a comedy/horror. My favorite along these lines is "The Cabin In The Woods" (2012), with Joss Whedon (of "Firefly" and "Buffy" fame) pitching in on the writing . Roger Ebert (3 stars out of 4): "You're not going to see this one coming ... One imagines the filmmakers chortling with glee as they devise first one bizarre development and then another in a free-for-all for their imaginations." And lines like:
Marty: Yeah, I, uh, I had to dismember that guy with a trowel. What have you been up to?
