July 2 Alpha Release of Blender 2.8 Also end of Summer code quest. Bug tracker opens exclusively for crash reports New theme release, add on will be disabled by default recommendation do not trying adding add-ons from third parties most likely will not work and may cause instability that will not be due to the actual alpha release

August 12 Beta Release

September 19 Still Beta but projected finalization of Python API

October 20 First release candidate

I've got another 45 minutes before we hit July 2nd. 😉

Thanks for the info Lobo. I doubt I'll be playing with it before the first release candidate.

I am not fond of Alpha releases and usually wait for Release candidates to give it a try to see if there might be anything special I might need to update like graphic drivers or such but will definitely be running 2.8 along side 2.79 heard some rumors that there will be some keyboard shortcut changes so will have to be on the look out for those to see if any are the major ones that I have become use to

Yes, I plan to run them both, mostly because they're doing away with the Blender render engine. I don't do much in the way of final renders with Blender, so waiting for a Cycles render just to check how my modeling is progressing, seems like a lot of wasted time. That said, I am looking forward to playing with EEVEE. 😉

yes EEVEE does look very promising and looking forward to taking advantage of it since I do have a 2 monitor set up so seeing a real time of my work might be extra motivating might even start saving up pennies for a new graphic card 😁

Don't get your panties in a knot for a new graphics card just yet. It seems that Nvidia has a large (massive, gargantuan) overstock of existing cards it has to flog. They're saying via press releases that the new cards won't be ready until next year but we all know that this is just marketing speak for, "we over estimated the amount of cards that the bitminer's would buy and now have to get rid of them despite the fact that our new (super and amazing!) cards are almost ready."

I'm going to sit on my wallet at least until next year. The new AMD 'snotripper' (or whatever it's called) chips will settle down in price and availability, motherboard manufacturers will optimize their boards and massage reliability, and lastly, the video card war will (should, might, maybe?) settle down.

My card is a Nvidia 980Ti which is still pretty good and and get decent Render times but have considered adding a second card but agree that waiting as well might not be a bad idea and see what the current does plus between $700 to $1000 for a new card still means pennys need to be saved 😁

Good link... need to read Slashdot more frequently. I hope RAM and SSD prices drop a bit too... SSD has become a lot more affordable, even here in Oz.

I have seen the a noticeable drop in SSD prices here in the states but currently SSD are no high on my list of upcoming upgrades or improvements as I have allot of storage space currently hope the trend does no less continue since prices after during the first and second quarter of this year put many things out of reach

I have already seen a few tutorials for current alpha releases that show the new UI and such but most if not all addons are disabled
