In another thread a comment was made about Blender not having a simple interface for using cameras. Whilst there are a number of different ways of camera selection and switching I thought I would share the way that I have set-up my start up Blender file to make this job easier. One of my clients that I do Blender work for requires 3D models of furniture to be made and then rendered from set angles, front, side back and 45 degree of front and back. I have set-up a series of cameras at each of theses angles. The method I have come up with makes switching between scene cameras very quick and visually easy. The attached link opens a PDF file from my locker room here at Renderosity. Let me know what you think of my set-up, and if you have a different way that you find quick and efficient please comment here. The Link - Camera Selection in Blender

Hey Keppel, nicely done. My only comment is the first screenshot, where you talk about 1. Set up your "lights", 2. Select and name each of the "lights", and 3. Place all the "lights" on the same layer. I think those references should be changed to cameras. 😉

Other than that, your method is similar to what I've done, though I've only created one front, up close, camera, as I don't do final renders in Blender, but do like to see up close and personal how my model is progressing, so having a camera closer to the model's 0/0/0 origin than Blender's default camera, has been a plus.

As far as putting the cameras on the same layer, that's something I've been doing with Blender for years. I have all cameras and lights on Layer 20, so they're always out of the way while editing, and all I need to do is make sure I have both Layers 1 and 20 selected in Object mode before rendering. I'm so used to it now, I don't even have to think about it. 🙂
