I've been trying to create a magnifying glass effect, but all I'm getting is black glass or, if I turn on transparency, very nice, un-magnifying glass.

Any suggestions or settings I should try?

I'm using a high rez ball with z-scale set to 15%.

Thanks!

A lot depends on the version of Poser you have. Theoretically you should be able to get close with the caustics of Superfly in Poser 11. But I don't believe it's possible with earlier versions of Poser.

Well, fudge. I'm using Poser Pro 2014.

Thanks.

Don't give up ... there may still be a way. I know some pretty gifted Poser gurus around here. Let me do some research for you.

That's complex! :)

I just set a scene up in Poser Pro 2014, a square prop with a tiled texture, a stick man and a hi-res ball prop scaled to 25% on the y-scale to approximate a magnifying glass shape.

In the material room, I selected the ball prop and just clicked the 'add refraction' wacro.

This is the render from the front camera showing the magnifying effect.

Boni, could you please link the thread with this shader? Thanks!

Well, raven's suggestion worked. My issue apparently was the magnifying glass prop I'm using has no curvature, so I thought the issue was the wacro. But the squished ball plus the wacro had the magnifying effect.

Thanks for your help!
