I've been using the 2.8 Beta for many months now and have found it to be (mostly) stable. There's no date for the release but I wouldn't let that stop you. Grab the latest version each Sunday and have a go, it's brilliant! I wouldn't dream of going back to 2.79b.

It's a major redesign, meaning that it will get released when it's ready. I don't think there's a release date and after waiting this long, I'm not paying much attention to the development.

It is better to do one thing well, than to do many things and excel at nothing.

The Beta's have been pretty stable for the most part occasionally one gets thru and is just a crasher but they are updating nightly

Ok. I assumed that because of all the Blender 2.8 tutorial videos and hype on YouTube that there was a download available for it. I'll check back again around June/July then.

There is a download:

It's just that it's getting frequently updated at the moment. You can use it if you want to play / learn, but if you're using it for anything important, stick with the tried and tested stability of 2.79b.

Thanks. Found 2.8 beta to try. Why wasn't blender made this way from the start, back with 0.9? Hexagon was doing things this way back in 2006. Anyway, I'm glad blender has finally caught up with its 3D modeling tools and GUIs.

Well, in its defence, it didn't have a big team behind it back then - it was programmers doing design work or something (and probably didn't predict its current popularity). It was only much later that spending time redesigning the UI (v. features) was given a priority.

Yes, I always hated the UI of the 2.4x versions. I think it was version 2.52 when I first came across the UI that's been popular up until 2.8 came out.

The new release date for Blender 2.8 is scheduled for July 2019. It was previously supposed to be Sept. of 2018, then they moved it to April 2019, neither of which came to fruition obviously. Let's hope this new release date stays as planned.
