Subject: Prop-based hair, physics, and retraction

Hello again. How would I work with physics in prop-based hair (as with, say, making longer hair move while a person is running or when they bend their head)? Would I need to rig the hair? I'd also like to make a morph dial (if that is what I need) where the hair can retract into the head (no matter where or how it has moved) and vanish. I also want to have a morph for longer hair where it retracts into the head like the last idea, but it loses its strand-like nature to form into a more masculine hairstyle (this idea is quite similar to what can be done with the tools in Blender that allow you to morph between shapes. There is a system that gives you animation control over transmapped (not strand) hair. Search for Virtual World Dynamics. I have it, and it works, with a learning curve.

Have you tried animating the scale dials on your hair model to make it gradually shorter/disappear?

I'll experiment converting Blender's morph keys (and possibly using some material shaders to create the illusion the hair disappears) into Poser morph dials for my other issue.

I've used three methods to do this:

1] Make morphs for maximum extent of movement (swing back, swing forward, swing left, swing right). you can either use a model to move the original OBJ's vertices, and import the modified meshes as morph targets, or use Poser's morph brush. Keyframe the movements in Poser's timeline (swing left in frame 10, swing right in frame 23, swing left in frame 36...)

2] Rig the hair model as a figure, and keyframe the "pose" changes in the timeline.

3] Clothify the hair model and run through the animation as a dynamic cloth simulation. This method works well for layered hair models, but is unsuitable for models with intersecting panels.
