In my new Windows 10 There are 2 paths to save to on the hard-drive: This PC, then Users, then computername, or Public.
Confusion 1, the computername choice has "Documents".
So path looks like C:UsersyourcomputernameDocuments.
Confusion 2, second option "Public" has "Public Documents" This is where my installation of DAZ4.10 went. Also here is where "My DAZ Library" is located. Apparently, after later versions of DAZ4, the default was changed from "My Library" on my hardrive to "My DAZ Library" for DIM content. so this path looks like:
C:UsersPublicDocumentsMy DAZ 3D Library.
I found countless references to install 3rd party content to My Library, but apparently it should now go to My DAZ Library (not to be confused with the DAZ Connect, which is confusing.)
If you recently installed latest version of Windows 10, (like in June 2019) you will find that Windows has OneDrive, their cloud storage, which actually sucks up all your files. I like to work on my Desktop, but when I started next morning, my folders were gone! The OneDrive sucked them up and away. But, it will put them "back" if you request for each usage. Incidentally, the first 5gb are free, over that a subscription must started in order to get at the stuff they have. It just stalls until you do that. So now we have yet another path that looks like this:
C:UserscomputernameOneDriveDocumentsDAZ 3DStudioMy Daz Connect Librarydatacloud1_14812peoplegenesishairaldora.
The OneDrive sucked up the DAZ Connect! Insane! And, since I disabled the OneDrive, I can't load the hair either.
There was another path to the OneDrive with "Documents", but I have disabled it, so I don't remember the exact path wording. I still have to retrieve the Genesis 1 Essentials for my shaders to work. Simple uninstall and reinstall has not worked.
So if you have a new pc with Windows 10 Edge, you will not be able to see DAZ forums for help, because the screen is grey out. One must go to the Microsoft site and download the Beta version of Edge, which will see the forums, and other sites that were grey out. I suppose you could try other browsers, but the Beta worked easily for me.
I have reconciled myself to manually installing the 3 general folders, data, people, runtime. But it is not 100% working. So now that I know which path I prefer to store my Rendo stuff, I put a shortcut on the Desktop (confident it will be there tomorrow). I just drag and drop. The dsf files are in the My DAZ Library, so I won't get the grey blocks. So now on to doing some actual art creation!
