If you're making a comic, starting one using Poser, want some feedback or just to wish to show off, start here.

First I love Scifi, I have a comic already running and I'm getting back into it. The hardest part of any of it, believe it or not is casting and testing before you tell your Never Ending Story (He named her Moonchild). So here is a shot from my comic plug suit test. rokket, you see everything before I post it so stop me if I push the edge.

This looks great! I love how the colors pop. I love creating toons also with Poser. I do illustrations for kids books. I use the toon lines option in the render settings as I assume you have done here. My problem I have often is that when using toon lines, I get these tiny black dots sprinkled on areas of the render. Sometimes they can be light and sometimes very heavy. I have learned that I can delete any bump maps a figure or object may have to clear them up. Other than that I have to create 2 renders. One with out the toon lines and one with the toon lines. I then take them into photoshop and place the render without the toon lines in the layer under the render with the toon lines. Then I erase the little black dots which leaves the image looking clean, then I flatten the 2 renders! Any other suggestions on how to be rid of the tiny black dots?

rokket posted Wed, 17 July 2019 at 7:19 PM

I am watching you, Rob. I want you to push it right to the edge...

I started playing around with an image I did when I first got my Wacom... I will post the original and then the rework... demon.png

On the matter of the black dots... as you can see in the rework, when I used the edge filter in GIMP, it makes all the little color differences show up as a bump. The way to get rid of those lines is to not render with any bump maps and turn off shadows. Light and the textures in the background and ground will all turn into those dots. demon rework.jpg

Love the image rokket! Very well done! Thank you for the tips! I do discard the bump maps but have not thought of shadows. I will turn off the shadows on my next toon render! Thanks!

I am still getting used to my Wacom tablet, but this was done by just setting the coloring to comic so it was black and white, then setting the preview render high.

Here is the finished cell...

I readjusted the poses, found a suitable background, then took the image into GIMP for some toon work. The remaining toon work was done in Comic Life 3. which included the sound effects and some more toon lines. The action hit between the characters was from a free download I found on Google.

All of these images were only preview renders. I don't render in Firefly either, so the toon outline isn't available to me.

I haven't tried using the toon shader yet, mainly because I am using Aiko 4, and she has too many mat zones.

I may try it on an old P7 figure like Sydney, or P8 Alyson later, though...

So set up Aiko's mats and save that as a mat preset. Then you just load the one preset anytime you want that mat.

Are those second skins or a bodysuit? using the comic shader? It's only for Preview so it might be perfect. Does GIMP support Photoshop Actions?

I used the Poser cartooning filter and used some actions like Posterize to get this. NO Rendering is done.

Very nice. Thanks Earl.

It is summer and these things ebb and flow. We need interesting subjects and knowledge and people kind enough to share. I can do some light texturing but when Tony, Ken, Rokket and others start talking about baking UV's, I'm totally lost. One thing I've gotten good at is making comics. So I'll share some knowledge but bring some of your own game. There are some good traditional artists here as well. Go ahead and critique but remember this isn't 4Chan.

Of course we should post some Comic images, from any source in a comic book thread.

Here is the incomplete cover. I'm using some placeholders until I can design the comic cover errata

It's the way I can deal with the long render times. That and knowing if I were using DS, the wait times would be longer. These are done in Firefly as I do. The actual figure image is spot on. How did you do the background? Page_47_lite.jpg

For what it's worth, it looks like Mike Deodato is using Poser (and a lot of photo referencing) for the artwork in AWA's upcoming Resistance comic book.

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/08/08/jms-the-resistance-mike-deodato-awa/

I personally don't think the art looks all that great to be honest... assuming that it is even Poser, but I strongly suspect it is. I still prefer hand-drawn or a hybrid of 3d renders as a base reference and then hand-tracing over it while adding some stylistic flourishes to make it more hand-drawn-looking.

A couple of offerings. These are two of the female pilots from my universe. They are on a colonized planet called Eden Prime. I had a story that takes place years after the colony was established in which a young heroine, the daughter of the assassinated president, gets accused of his murder and has to prove her innocence.

But these pilots are from the very early years of the colony. Earth launched several deep space exploration ships so large they had to build them in space to combat the over population and decay of Earth's natural resources. Eden Prime was one of the first and largest colonies.

The problems start as soon as they land. What was thought to be a perfect uninhabited planet turns out to be just the opposite. The planet has an indigenous population and several areas that are not hospitable or just down right dangerous.

The colony was welcomed at first, but as the colony grew and started to take more and more from her adopted home, trouble starts. All out war breaks out between the colony and the indigenous people, named "Outlanders" by the colonists.

The uniform has badges to signify military occupational specialty (MOS) and unit. The star on the right arm signifies pilot, while the skull on the left arm signifies Delta Wing, known as the marauders.

You will notice that the helmet is lit up when worn, and the lights are out when it is removed. The helmet is tied to the ship they fly. They can keep the helmet on to supply them with an atmosphere while in areas that are deemed IDLH (imminent danger to life and health), but the battery is limited. The further away from the ship they get, the more limited it is.

I had a group pic of two male and two female pilots, but they were V4 and M4, and the texture maps were cross talking for some unknown reason. When I would adjust the maps to work on V4, they were in the wrong spots on M4, and vice versa. So that pic was scrapped.

Here we go!

The first has a Star League feel to it and the only Star League I know is from the Last Starfighter (with Robert Preston more or less reprising his Harry Hill without Shirley Jones), so she has a cadet ready for training feel to to her. I might be projecting my own star fighter story (We'll have to do a crossover!) but I have the feeling she is at home on a ship.

The second offering is a huge tease! What's up?? You can't drop a page and ...well, I suppose you can. I do like it and want to see more.

@quietrob: She isn't a cadet. She's a full blown pilot, and this was supposed to be a routine patrol.

I don't know if you remember Jennalyn Walker and the original Eden Prime story I had written. But this story takes place only a couple years after Eden lands on what they thought was an uninhabited planet. I changed the civil war thing into an all out war between the indigenous people and the colonists. It's not unlike a certain history here on Earth. But there are twists.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

rokket posted Sat, 17 August 2019 at 5:08 PM

I have a lead cast vs a leading man or woman. This pilot is a member of the Marauders, a squadron assigned to patrol the Outer Ridge. There are a lot of strange things happening out there that no one can explain, and this story takes place in a region they don't normally patrol. A power surge threw off her instruments and got her stranded in there. She meets a very interesting life form while in there. And if it's not apparent, she is gay. It's not like she doesn't like to be around men, she is just more comfortable with women, something her 'host' was able to sense.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

rokket posted Sat, 17 August 2019 at 5:13 PM

The statement "She knew she was not on Eden Prime, yet..." is a bit misleading. I have to rewrite that segment because initially, she was supposed to be on a space patrol, but I changed things around a bit. I don't want space travel to be available to the colonists because it would solve 99% of their problems if they just left the planet.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

quietrob posted Sat, 17 August 2019 at 8:49 PM

You touched on many things. One is just my laziness when it comes to grammar. It would be better said, that she looks like a soldier but fresh out of boot camp. Those of who served remember that feeling of invincibility and belonging when we earned our brass. In this case, it would be like her earning that uniform.

Her sexuality. You know I have many little quips that I could make here but this is author's choice but I say this. In real life, Life is too short not to find love. I feel that way about the stories I write as well. The only thing is you said, it may not be apparent. How could it be? So far I know this about her. She seems to have at least one friend, she is proud of her outfit (group) and proud of her uniform.

Okay, you need to clarify. Is she a pilot or not? The "They just could leave" premise is a false one. Unless you wish to restrict it to a planetary struggle like "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" or "Top Gun", or like many of the Star Trek TNG episodes. Anyway I believe you can have space travel. The Pros and Cons I'll list another day after the Queen of Ai makes a little speech that may serve your purpose.

Seeing ORIGINAL comic pages by the likes of you and Estherau (Esther to me, I believe a kindred spirit when it comes to comics) gets me pumped up and wanting to create or release new pages of the new stories I wrote.

ANDY GETS A CAMEO! It appears that someone has perfected the superfly shaders. I was like "Oh c'mon man!" However, if Robby the Robot (Fantastic Planet) can be used in at THREE different movies or television scenes than Andy should be all over Poserdom.

Pinging Nightsong. This is a test of the Renderosity Underground Communications Systems.

rokket posted Sat, 17 August 2019 at 9:25 PM

I guess I should have stated from the beginning that this isn't the beginning; far from it. She is a pilot and a damn good one. She is the leader of her squad and a captain.

I don't want to use space travel because the planet they landed on and named Eden Prime is very hostile. There are parts of it that are just plain spooky, and the native population which was friendly and giving at first has become very hostile toward them. Hence the war. The easy way out is to board Eden and get the hell off the planet. But it will be explained that doing that is impossible. The engines were designed to get them there and that's it. They were to be repurposed as generators for the new colony once they began construction.

The pilot in question (no name yet, I am still working out a lot of details) was on a routine patrol when her plane got hit by the anomaly she can see in her HUD. She lost control when her navigation controls couldn't tell up from down.

Her new friend is way more than they seem to be. For one, the assumed gender is only an attempt to make the pilot more at ease. The entity has no gender.

I like using everything at my disposal when I am creating, and using Andy and Andrea instead of modeling a creature just made sense.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

quietrob posted Sat, 17 August 2019 at 10:22 PM

Waitaminnit. A being can have both genders but no gender? Is she a one off, cloned that way or does she reproduce by osmosis? Although unless she has a love interest with the natural inclinations for children, it can color the story a bit but not overall.

Ya, I know, all things shall be explained. But your're the the one who dropped clues. I love solving mysteries so I had to at least conjecture.

rokket posted Sun, 18 August 2019 at 1:54 AM

The entity is a spirit of sorts. It was trapped on Eden Prime centuries ago, and is basically going to attempt to use our pilot to free itself from the planet. It has no gender because it's not technically alive. It's AI...

But it has the ability to read thoughts and emotions, which was developed over a long period of confinement. Most of the beings it has come into contact with were animals or other such creatures with no true language, so it had to adapt.

The natives of Eden Prime refer to the entity in myth and legends, and tend to stay away from the area it inhabits. The colonials don't know any better, which is why the hapless pilot got herself into that predicament.

Oh, and legend has it that this creature was trapped on purpose on the planet by another technologically advanced race because it is dangerous and unpredictable. This is something the colonists would have known if they weren't at war with the natives.

The render below uses 'smooth shading' and the 'comic book' setting, and it's okay for some purposes but I'd like to be able to add in faded/muted color as well and can't seem to find any way to do that (except in outside post, but for various reasons I want to avoid that kind of workflow if I can). Some other issues: 1) LaFemme's eyeballs don't show in preview mode. How can I fix that? 2) if I leave out the background objects, the lines from the universe dome show right through the figure. 3) even with anti-aliasing, there are big pixel-like blocks in places. Is that from the mesh? How do I fix that?

Well, you get good results. Maybe I'm just lazy, but I want to keep post work to an absolute minimum. Also, post won't fix the jaggy shadows problem other than hand painting the right shapes. Seems like there ought to be a fix for that one somewhere within Poser.

There are a couple of adjustments you can make.

I am going to open poser and see what I can do to get a decent toon render

Well, I managed to get this, which is kind of awful, but sort of in the right direction. Not sure what I did, because these settings looked completely different earlier. It might be the lighting.

Right click on the scene brings up the cartoon settings:

Three tones Comic Book Geometric Edge Lines should all be checked.

This is a PREVIEW render, and I upped the preview settings just a bit:

Enable hardware AO and check the tab to optimize AO Uncheck remove backfacing polys Bump up the preview resolution to 1024

I also rendered it at 1920x1440

That looks great! I'll give that a try. One thing though- she doesn't cast a shadow. Is that just how it is in preview mode, or is there a way to get a cast shadow? And/or, is there a way to get a similar look (sans outline, I would presume) in Firefly?

rokket posted Tue, 20 August 2019 at 3:31 PM

This is just preview render. If you render in firefly it will be in color and render according to the materials setup.

I am away from my machine, so I can't verify, but I have a single IBL pointed nearly straight at her. To get shadows it would probably need another light coming down at an angle. Experiment with that...

Well, I do hate postwork, but it has to do with work flow and consistency. I'm looking at a graphic novel project, and the idea is to create a workflow that is A) faster than hand drawing everything; B) more consistent than hand drawing everything. Since there's a very large amount of pre-production overhead in making/modifying models, doing a lot of postwork brings me back to a hand-crafted workflow. I also really hate interrupted workflows, where I don't know if I've done stage 1 right until I get into another program and do stage 2 or stage 3. For my sanity, I prefer as much WYSIWYG as I can get.

Well, I don't know what I don't know yet, but I'm getting the feeling that the faster way to do stuff that still has some artistic merit is going to be to go with 'informational' renders that just provide enough info for a 100% paint-over. That way I don't even need to worry much about costume, just get in the ball-park. After all, I've invented that stuff from scratch for years, but it's a lot faster the more accurate the reference material is. If I go that route, Firefly seems adequate, since the actual renders will be invisible in the finished product.

That is how it's done. It's why I asked if you were so dead against Postwork (which I understand. Speed counts) The advantage of a simple informational render is that it's fast. Consider this. I did the first one hundred fifty pages or so as simple renders then I corrected, inked and don't forget you have to add dialogue and compose the page. I don't know what you're using for the final comic. I use Comic Life 3.

Your image above is great, but very far from what I'm after. I don't know anything about Comic Life 3, but if I had to guess I'd say you had a Firefly base render, some basic adjustments in post for contrast, lightness, etc, and then some edge-finding and noise filters in various combinations. Am I close? Rather than use that kind of automation, I'd just go ahead and re-draw the picture. It would give me a lot more flexibility and cut down on the overhead for props and clothes and stuff. Time consuming, but probably not much worse than having to get the render just right, and then do all the photo manipulation kinds of postwork. I was (still am, actually) hoping that I could get Poser to do something close enough to the finished style I'm after that all the pre-production work would cut out most of the post-production work, but I'm not seeing that so far...

I think CSP is more oriented toward digital drawing, whereas Comic Life 3 seems to mostly about image processing with a comic book look. CSP has image processing tools, but mostly of the photoshop type (and not as many); things like tones are geared toward Manga style and are fairly counter intuitive when it comes to using them like you would in a newspaper photo. Comic Life looks like a fun program if you're mostly trying to process an image made elsewhere- I'll bet it's a lot less cumbersome for that than CSP is.

I dont use a lot of faux-line post work on my comic strip โ€” I tried it a few times and found the results less than convincing. It is possible to emulate pencil and ink, but man it's a lot of work: you might as well just say screw it and draw it all out by hand and be done with it.

So instead, I opt for either a simple 2x2 or 2x3 panel layout... or else something more extravagant like this, where the colours are used to define who's saying what and move the eye down the page. These are certainly a lot more fun to do, and they're all pretty well impromptu creations: when I"m putting one of these together, everything โ€” the writing, the layout, the hopelessly overworked finish โ€” is all done to whim of the moment. And it usually results in things I would consider my better work.

This is a point where you and I differ. I think considering the enormous cost in manhours, it's a lot faster than penciling, inking, coloring and lettering. I believe the results are more than convincing when you consider that you want to do is tell a story. In the end, that is all I wish to do. Tell a story the best way I can.

_ So instead, I opt for either a simple 2x2 or 2x3 panel layout... or else something more extravagant like this, where the colours are used to define who's saying what and move the eye down the page._

I agree. I first this saw this in the modern Supergirl's origin story. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman each had a different color assigned to the thought dialog. It just plained worked and I adopted this in my stories as well. I did notice that you didn't do this on your published page above. As for the layout, 2x2 or 2x3 that is up to the artist. Whatever is your style for telling your story. I've grew up watching Jack Kirby break all of those rules just as Curt Swan predictably used a six panel layout for the majority of his pages. Both styles worked in their day. Today there isn't any rules. I read an entire comic that told the story just as your example did. That is my rule too. Whatever the mood or action call for to tell the story. Obviously what worked for Doc and Raider isn't going to necessarily work for Temple (My comic).

These are certainly a lot more fun to do, and they're all pretty well impromptu creations: when I"m putting one of these together, everything โ€” the writing, the layout, the hopelessly overworked finish โ€” is all done to whim of the moment. Very interesting story. Plus an all male cast! Considering the plethora of female characters in Poserdom that is difficult to do. It was only one page but I wanted to see what it was all about and where it led. Overworked finish? That's like Salieri telling Mozart that he used too many notes (See the movie Amadeus). I love those uniforms (Your two heroes do resemble Doc and Raider) and if I thought I could get them to fix my characters, I'd sure like too see how they fit. Thanks for the contribution and I hope to see more of your work. That is a wry sense of humor straight from Doonesbury!

That's intentional, because this is a page from a storyline whose framing device is that this is Elliot's (the film producer character in the strip) Big Summer Tentpole Production, and he enlisted them at the last minute when the two actors previously cast were removed from the production. So yes, it is DnR, acting in a film. Ah, the joys of playing God. LOL

There are things you can do inside Poser's Sketch Room, but you have to work with the settings to get there. This was based on a couple of passes of some custom settings I worked up, merged together in Photoshop, to create a pencil look. But I imagine that had I worked a bit more with the black point setting, it would create a pretty gosh darn good pen and ink look as well.

Anything to automate most of the process (you MUST do some by hand) is welcome. Especially the inking. That is what gives comics and manga that something special. Think of it. The entire Japanese Manga industry is based, more or less, on Black and White. They do such a great job at it that I really didn't care and the few colors pages were considered a treat. (One Hero Academia gets special notice including the episode that saved Anime). I notice that a full page on here just eats up a thread so I'll try and keep the page dimensions down. I would like to ink this. I have the background separated in CS6. This was something I was working when as Sam Therapy puts it, "Life Happens". rokket, I'm still searching for more files from my HD crash. I'll surprise you yet.

That really rendered nicely. Looks like it could be a page from a sketchbook.

Thanks. That's kind of the idea: it's a sketchbook from an ex-pat American who goes to Paris and gets trapped and subsequently vanishes in the student riots in 1965. I've been playing with the project for two years now and finally have a handle on it.

Demo of a minimal-postwork workflow in Poser and Photoshop. This keeps colours, inks, shadows all on their own layer, and thus easily edited. The Photoshop import and layer-blending can be automated by recorded Actions, once you have your workflow nailed down. The starting colours render could easily be normal colour flats under IBL lighting, here it just happens that a fast Sketch render was being used as a more artistic starting point.

Your tips are well recieved. Thank you for the knowledge. I do have a couple of questions.

  1. You said remove Gamma via the default script. Where is that script? I can't seem to find it. I do have a LOT of scripts so perhaps you can tell me where to look.

  2. Inking is one of the things that really gives comics it's look. I always ink by hand (WACOM TABLET) but anything to automate the process is welcome. I am not quite certain how to go about your process. I know there is a pen setting but it still would leave the colors intact, wouldn't it? I'd still have to remove the colors by hand. How to render an ink only render would be precious knowledge and worth the price of a cheeseburger (If you're not from the USA, it's our greatest contribution to the world of food. That and French Fries which aren't really French. Much respect to the French, they are really good at Bread. I mean, how good is a croissant?)

So a little clarity pleased. I do have a comic tutorial that I can post in return but it's a youtube video. The last one I posted wasn't well received. I literally got about 60 views and ZERO comments.

Thanks Rokket! It was strange as I had an inkling of a dream that she would have a boy and she did! 50/50 odds but I hit it. It is something wondrous to see a baby only 4 days old suddenly calming as soon as his mother or father held him. They say it's because a baby can smell it's mother's breast milk but that doesn't explain how he quieted when his father took over the duties. Of course I called my son and told him to get busy! LOL! 4 days old. That child has a chance to see the year 2100!

Thanks for even considering making that outfit. I think the one they used to have is for M3 but it is unavailable. I won't comment on the quality because I can't do better but that is the design I want.

I'm sorry you aren't in port but I hope at the least you got fed. We have enough leftovers to last a while but not too as I love leftovers. Sometimes food is actually better the next day. My only regret is that my love isn't here to enjoy the day and family with me. Still, enough sadness.

Answering the questions which arose from my recent post here:

does this work for transparent things like eyelashes and eyes and transmapped hair?

The display-mode I'm using for the shadows render doesn't like such things, but that shouldn't matter much. All you want are the shadows for blending. Since the deep shadows render is on its own layer in Photoshop when you paste it in, a flick of the Photoshop eraser should remove any ugly blocked-in transmapped eyelashes or similar. Without damaging the layers beneath (you may need to "knock out white" for precision editing of inks, and there are many free actions to do that). Obviously for hair you'll want stuff that shows up nicely in real-time Preview and other display modes. That usually means some of the hair that was produced in the sweet-spot when Genesis 1 fibremesh hair was being shipped with Poser files. The DSON plugin will bring it into Poser.

"remove Gamma via the default script. Where is that script?"

Not remove, lighten. The script ships with Poser 11.2 and is found at: Top Menu | Scripts | MaterialMods | ChangeGamma. Try a value of 1. It's easy to use and can lift grungy dark textures without having to fiddle around with re-texturing. Although you will want things like toon skin (get the free "Material set for Comic Book Preview in Poser 11") and will want to leave those alone re: Gamma lifting.

The preview render is how I did that girl holding the gun a couple pages back. I didn't think to change the gamma setting, or it might have gotten rid of all the noise in the building texture.

I've been looking at methods for "grunge reduction without retexturing" recently. Lifting the gamma is one partial method. Another is the Photoshop plugin Topaz Clean 3, which sadly is not in the Topaz Black Friday sale. Actually, I'd also be interested if anyone can replicate this level and fidelity of cleaning for free, by stacking the default Photoshop filters on a 'colour flats' render from Poser 11's Comic Book Preview mode.

I'm sorry Harty. The first time I like to follow directions directly. You said to render at 2800 pixels but didn't mention the DPI. For my comics I normally use 300 DPI as 600 just takes too much time to render with my slow machine. I suppose it might not matter in preview mode.

You can get the Topaz Clean plugin for Photoshop for $30 dollars american. There is a trial period but I don't see any restrictions on it as they said there would be.

First to business. The Topaz Clean Plug-in is for Adobe Photoshop and cost 30 bucks. There is a trial period that will expire in 30 days. I'm saving up for it. My budget is tighter than yours. I'm going to get it. Thanks for the tip Harty. For those that use GIMP. I get it. There is, rather was a free version of CS2 out as late January 2019. Things change quickly. If you want to stick with GIMP which is understandable as you can't beat that price, I would say do a little research and you may find the equivalent for the techniques listed above. Try Flatting Scripts in your search engine.

Now then...

Do not cast your pearls before swine. Do not waste good things on people who will not appreciate them. I think is the finishing part of that scripture.

I am the original poster. It's my thread but certainly all are welcome. They are welcome if they want to post tools for whatever software you use to accomplish your goals. They are welcome to post pages of their comic offering whether completed or a Work in Progress (WIP). They are welcome if they just wish to comment or offer valid critiques based on their own experiences. You never have to agree with their critiques. Nothing is more subjective than art. You never have to defend your technique whether that technique is to use a rendered image or turn that rendered image into something more traditional. Many times, in other threads, I've heard digs both backhanded and obvious that assail those who wish to do pinups. They are welcome too. Show me a comic by any of the mainstream houses and I can show you a swimsuit issue, or even a girl with a sword in front a temple by their comic hero or heroine. Yet even those Pinups are only valid because they relate to a good story. Write a good story and those skimpy bikini clad heroines will have an extra dimension to them. There are those who only wish to tell jokes and make us laugh. They are welcome too. Divergence from a topic doesn't kill a topic. It opens new avenues and ways of thinking. Even purer than that, there are few things better than watching milk snort from Afrodite-Ohki's and Miss B's nose at the same time.

I've wrote Harty and peppered him with questions and he's been kind enough to provide illustrations as to his workflow. Reveal tips and tricks that profit us all. I'd made over 200 pages of comic art and only stopped for reasons that those know me well understand. I loved doing it and will do it again. Even after making so many pages I found he knew ways of improving comic art or the workflow for those of that use Poser and an art enhancement software of their choice, that I didn't know. Every person that makes comics has resources and we all benefit when that resource is shared. Especially when the only benefit to the person is doing a kind thing for others. It's why I'm incredibly indebted to rokket and his modeling skills, his experience in drawing comics (by hand!) and ideas of good characters and good stories. It's why I appreciate Harty, who is very busy, coming here and sharing his knowledge. If you leave the thread, just know you have my thanks.

What figure did you use? You say it's not finished but I can't think of anything else that needs to be done. An outline of the pink area's? No..

Well, for those that didn't know, here is Gwen, Spiderman's first love before Mary Jane who was more interesting in every way. Gwen was killed in the original comics by the Green Goblin. Back then it was quite traumatic for Spiderman fans as Stan Lee had a policy of NEVER bringing back dead heroes or characters. Obviously they brought here back in some type of reboot or an incarnation of the multiverse (Spiderverse? Rokketverse?) Anyway, dare to compare and you can see how good a job this is. I think it's already amazing.

I would only say to make the blue cover her toes and more of her heel and sole. Whether to include the balllet straps are a tossup. One image says yes, the other no. I rather like it without the straps. Perhaps make it a morph or a texture change to hide/show them. I mean, they are girly and super cute. The peaks at her breasts are a tad bit high. The side pink on her torso is a bit low. However, I don't see any distortion but you have a creators critical eye. All I'm doing is playing "Find the Difference". You didn't ask for any critique so I will say sorry if you wish. Overall, if you quit right now, it looks ready. Even as a WIP, I rate this superb.

Every time you say that you're at sea, the song Brandy by Looking Glass comes to mind.

"Yeah, Brandy used to watch his eyes. When he told his sailor's story. She could feel the ocean fall and rise. She saw its raging glory."

Anyway, I didn't think that was distortion. I just thought because it's a WIP you were still tuning that side webbing on her torso. I think it will be a fine addition to the Super Hero costumes. I think TerryMcG and Joe Quick would agree. I know that when I'm adapting textures I've gone as high as version 9 as I move a patch here or adjust a rank there. Obviously modeling takes a lot of time to get things right but I've learned that good texturing requires a lot of effort too. You and the other creators can let us know which takes longer. Still, it's good work, bro!

My saving up list. UVlayout. (About 100 Bucks) Topaz Clean (29.99 out the door)

I do have Blender and Hexagon but you generally get what you pay for. I read in another thread that Littlefox uses Modo (1800 bucks for a permanent license or 50 bucks a month) I think I'll need to spend that much on a new computer to run it) Zbrush is what Darkseal uses...895 Bucks or 40 bucks a month. I always forget if you use Wings or Silo. Whichever you use, I think the results are worth it.

I have to learn how to model so I can make stuff for YOU! (and Rhia) Bleh. I need a better font for the Senpai Studios box (which is me for the Art and Story and any friends that act as editors).

The title can go anywhere, in any form as not to obscure the art. The top stuff is pretty stable. Are you using ComicLife, Gimp, or CS6?

In the meantime, I am going to play with making it a toon.

Absolutely looking forward to seeing her! The work in progress was so good. I can't wait to see the final version!

Heck Yeah! The extra information really works. You have a bad/good guy that creates mystery in the corner. You get the rebel-I'm not fitting in a box with the UNAPPROVED Label and the title now tilts toward the genre you're working in. Without knowing what the story was about, I was thinking elves and perhaps something not so dark. The entire cover looks more traditional but professional. Pretty good! It just struck me that it's information and that puts our cortex to work. I mean, now I HAVE to know what is an Everstar (Original name. That is not easy) Nicely done!

Well, as far as the context of the current arc, you're not wrong (Elves). But the over all theme is much better represented by the new cover format. So much so, I went and redid all the covers for the first nine issues and replaced them on the website. They all look so much better.

It's a rare (for me) action pose. I usually just do some sort of majestic hero pose and don't do action poses when I post WIP's or finished costumes. But it's Spider Gwen. The costume begs to be in action.

Not far off the mark, as that is not an outfit, at least in the context of the store. That's him. And yes, containers make for great scene fillers lol

That's him? Makes him more scary. And yes The Undertaker is exactly who I meant. Dude was freakin' scary enough but he used to drag around a coffin with him for his victims. Something that has been copied in Anime and Kung Fu films. I don't really know who did it first but he did it best. You know, I can only imagine his opponents fear when they realize (or find out the hard way) that isn't his outfit.

So, every once in awhile I get an urge to re-imagine already established comic characters. I did this as a second skin suit, and the boots are a bit clunky. But the boots, bracers and tiara and belt are all rigged. The lasso (I could have done a better job with that, but it is what it is) is smart propped to the belt.

This is a really fast thrown together second skin suit. I am currently trying to decide if I just model a suit or fix the errors and issues with the second skin. The boots and ring are props for M4 that I already had in my runtime. The mask was another quicky just to see what it would look like. If I decide to finish this, I'll make a second skin mask to go along with the suit. That way, I don't have to worry about how it fits around the eyes.

The trees are all just single sides squares with trees painted on. The grass is zbrush fiber mesh and displacement mapping on the ground to add depth.

First of all, sorry for being AWOL. I posted about it and Knyghtmare was kind enough to inquire within. That was nice, Knyghtmare. I once saved a life by just checking up on an old friend. I wasn't that far gone but it was to know I was missed. rokket, thanks for asking about me. That kind of stuff really matters. At least it does to me.

rokket that mesh is something special. Your Jessica Cruz should be used in the movies. Nicely done. Plus your reimagined Wonder Woman is very classy. My detractors call me a sexist but I'm not the one who set the standard by putting a woman in a corset and dominatrix boots. (I just surpassed it. Not skimpy enough. I'm still waiting for the Sexy Generalettes Bundle) Your Wonder Woman is more adorable but that outfit is more functional. It works better today as much as earlier versions did in the seventies when they replaced her outfit to fit with the liberated women of the times.

Anyway, I hope you guys are doing fine!

So, now that I got the Batman render out of my system.... I've been updating Knyghtmare! Actually, I've updated the whole cast, but lets concentrate on Mr. Scary, shall we?

The Knyghtmare.png

The Knyghtmare's 'suit' is made with displacement, so I refined and smoothed his displacement maps. I've added scratches to the prop elements, and worked with the bump maps to try and get everything matching. Harder than it sounds.

KM close up chest.png

There is a subtle painted shadow under his chest horns to help them pop. I also resculted the chest horns a bit to get them to have a better highlight.

KM Knuckles.png

...and thats just METAL.

All the spikes are displaced. I'm pretty pleased with how he looks now.
