Rendered with Blender 2.8 and the Eevee render engine. It's based on some of the techniques I had used with particles in After Effects, but rendered a lot faster than some of my AE versions.

Each frame took less than 1 second (amost real-time) with Ambient Occlusion, Depth Of Field, and Screen Space Reflections activated. HDR environment background and 1 area light with ESM shadows. Hardware included Intel i7 8700k cpu and Nvidia RTX 2070.
