Subject: Vendor Links In Library Folders ?

Hi I'm all for a bit of advertising but this is overkill, do you not think if I wanted to buy from a particular vendor I would seek them out on the site or marketplace ? Instead of clicking on the link by accident whilst searching for content in the library. Not amused

Afrodite-Ohki posted Thu, 19 September 2019 at 8:04 AM

The links are there because those folders were gifts from the vendor. It was a courtesy from each in return for some exposure/advertisement within the program. Without the link, they'd be giving up revenue from those products with nothing in return.

Exactly. 😄 It is a small thing to give back to the vendor for giving away their work for you to enjoy. 😄

Glitterati3D posted Thu, 19 September 2019 at 8:13 AM

You are free to delete them from your runtime.

But, I'm sure I speak for all the vendors who took commercial quality products from their stores and included them for you, free of charge, in saying "You're welcome. Thank you for your support."

hborre posted Thu, 19 September 2019 at 8:21 AM

Agree with Glitterati3D, just delete them if they bother you.

Yes!

Thank you you wonderful, generous vendors!

randym77 posted Thu, 19 September 2019 at 8:39 AM

Wow, I didn't realize that. I'd assumed Rosity bought the products from the vendors.

No, these are gifts to you from the vendors. Hivewire is giving away practically their entire store!

This was basically a group effort to see Poser thrive again. For instance, those Superfly materials with my name on them - I made them specially for this, in the hopes to help bring up the quality of Poser renders in our community. They're merchant resources too, free to use in products and freebies (and that's specific for those - come to think of it, I should have included a readme file with them, oops!)

These are all such generous gifts from the vendors to us. I can't thank you all enough for what you've given us in Poser Pro 11.2! Thank you!! I can't wait to start rendering with all this incredible new content. 😀

And, you know, Lee, no more Paulines/Pauls with releases. Not only do we have La Femme, but Dawn, Dusk, Baby Luna, the HW Horse and Gorilla! In an SR, no less!!!!! Not even a new, paid version for all those incredible new figures for Poser.

I would thank anyone that gives up their time and products for free, but this should have been made clear to everyone because they are being included in a programe that is paid for NOT GIVEN FREE like these products which are given free. Regardless of all the criticism I have taken I still stand by my original thought that I would seek out these vendors and not find them by accidentally clicking on a link and yes before you all jump on the bandwagon I have deleted them. You are paying for THE PROGRAM. This is the first time - ever - that Poser comes packed with store-quality items, and I'll remind you that most of the purchase revenue coming from Poser 11 is NOT going to Renderosity, as they have to honor previous purchases that went to Smith Micro instead.

And I fail to see how misclicking a link is a huge problem.

But some people just want to complain, I guess, so have at it.

This is why I no longer offer freebies. It's called manners, common decency. The common decency not to look a gift horse in the mouth and complain about the gift you were given.

Even IF one is unhappy about the strings attached to a gift, given freely, they should have the good manners to keep their complaint to themselves.

To me the option the OP have is very simple, if you don't like what is in it. Don't DL the extra content that is given freely by vendors.

Please do not paint with such a broad brush. There will always be someone who when presented with brand new swimming pool, will complain it's not gold plated. From what I read in a different thread, most of us were (are) overwhelmed by the content given. I also found to my surprise that I liked being able to instantly visit a Vendor with a single click. Gliteratti and Ohki, thank you both. You both helped me in the past but have helped so many people, you don't remember it. 😄

You know, I had just two written paragraphs of what more than a few have done for me. I think it would be better received at the Hive. Ask me again, sometimes.

I believe the thread was about Vendor links in our runtimes. I believe I said I approve.

randym77 posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 5:49 PM

Well, I've finally had a chance to go through the new content, and holy heck! There's a LOT. And a nice variety. Something for everyone. It feels like Christmas, so thank you, kind vendors. :-)

Miss B posted Mon, 30 September 2019 at 11:27 AM

Well, I deleted them, as I don't like to have to dig down yet another subfolder to get to what I'm looking for, but that doesn't in any way mean I don't appreciate the generosity of all the Renderosity vendors who donated the vast amount of goodies included with the PP11.2 update.

In fact, I've already posted a new render up in my gallery here of one of those goodies, so thanks folks, muchly appreciated. 😁

Since nails60 (from here) and structure (from here) linked to this thread from my one on the same topic, I think it's worth returning the courtesy - 11.2: I'm mildly unhappy about the weblinks disguised as CR2s...

(Please take the time to actually read, and more importantly, to understand, what I said in the first post - and in my reply to nails60)

Most posts here, and on my thread, seem to completely miss the main point.

The 3Dcheapskate* occasionally posts sensible stuff. Usually by accident.
And it usually uses Poser 11, with units set to inches. Except when it's using Poser 6 or PP2014, or when its units are set to PNU.

*also available in ShareCG, DAZ, and HiveWire3D flavours (the DeviantArt and CGBytes flavour have been discontinued).

Miss B posted Tue, 01 October 2019 at 10:52 AM

Your suggestion in the first post of that thread to have a "separate" folder for Web Links isn't a bad idea at all. I just find having them intermingled with actual content something I don't want to deal with.
