Hi, guys. I was just thinking about some new tutorials and it occurred to me that I have some photos of the models created with Blender that had actually been 3d printed successfully as custom jewelry. Some of them were printed by people who had followed the tutorials, and some were printed by me as a test. Hopefully, some of you who create abstract models for fun or learning purposes will be inspired to 3d print your own stuff too. Its great fun, and provides a great sense of achievement in the end when you could actually wear your designs.

First up is the floral starball. This tutorial was one of the first full tutorial videos I had created with Blender. This object was modeled in Blender 2.74 and 3d printed with Shapeways service.

This next one is the Trefoil Star Pendant, modeled in Blender 2.75 and also printed out with Shapeways. IMG_20160430_180951434.jpg

This is a design I call "Vortex Mandala". I didn't create a Blender tutorial for this one (yet), but the model was indeed created inside Blender 2.75 and exported for 3d printing as a OBJ. I converted the OBJ to STL with MeshMixer before uploading for the final print at Shapeways.

And finally, this one was created for a jeweler in Europe. He had the design 3d printed through Shapeways in 14k gold plated. This design was originally modeled with Blender 2.75, then I had to use Zbrush to "weld" everything together and reduce the polycount to something which could be useable in the 3d print. This was one of the most challenging designs simply because it needed extra support in order to be rigid enough to withstand the 14k gold plating process and polishing.

He also had the design printed in polished silver plating.

WOW, that Gold plated version is gorgeous, and I'm sure it looks great in Silver plating as well.

Thanks for showing them to us Lux.

Thanks, Miss B & Laurie! I really hope this will inspire even more people to try out modeling for 3d printing as well. Especially with Blender, it's a really great tool for the job because Blender has not only extremely powerful polygonal modeling tools, but also some excellent sculpting tools which really come in handy for 3d printing. Of course, if you use Zbrush or 3dCoat, Blender works very well with those tools too.

@Miss B - here's the Silver plated version. It's really gorgeous as you can see. I was actually overjoyed with the results when he sent me these photos. I didn't imagine they would turn out this good personally. I had only ever printed in plastic or stainless steel before this.

And this model was created by UnkerJay in the BlenderArtists forum based on my Interlocked Star Nest tutorial for Blender 2.77. I believe he printed this in silver as well.
