Hello, A bit nervous about this but I do need answers to some questions! I'm sure Its as clear as crystal to most of you but I'm getting on and semi-senile, so..
Any help would be appreciated! (Please be patient with a doddering old twit) I shall now press the 'create thread' button and hide behind the sofa! Noel

Take a deep breath ... yes ... you do NEED to update ... the licensing transfer makes it necessary and yes your program will stop working if you don't. Don't panic.
I hope these small adjustments help. Please let us know. We'll get you through this.

Thanks Boni but I still can't open the two upgrade files. As I said when I click (in any combination) all I get is a selection of programs which are no use for opening the files. Also what about these 'ere tickets! I had one accepted about the file opening but no response yet and where would I find the response? Noel

Also when will doomsday occur, i.e. when will the non upgraded Posers stop working? (can't abide change at my time o' life!)
Rhia474 posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 8:40 AM
Forgive me to ask this, but when you say 'click' on the downloaded file that is called 'Install Poser 11', are you single-clicking with your mouse's left or right button? Try to double-click with the left mouse button to run it.
Notsrella posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 8:51 AM
Hello Rhia474, Left double click opens the ' choose program to open the file', right click produces the menu with 'open' at the top which gives 'choose etc.
Rhia474 posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 9:07 AM
It does not say anywhere 'run' or 'run as administrator'? What is your OS?
Notsrella posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 9:29 AM
Hello Rhia474, I think the first time I opened the download page it did say 'run' but its been 'open or 'open and save since. My OS is windows 7. Its very annoying, I had a feeling this would happen!
Rhia474 posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 9:36 AM
I can see it's frustrating and I am almost at the end of anything useful here to be honest. What do you mean 'opened the download page'? When you say that, it's a bit confusing.
Notsrella posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 9:42 AM
Hello, Its the Renderosity / Bondware page that had the two files for downloading, the installer and the support files.
ghostman posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 9:45 AM
And the files are named PoserSupport.exe and Install Poser 11.exe ??

Rhia474 posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 9:57 AM
Yep, make sure you downloaded the WIN files, not the Mac ones. Win extension should be ending in .exe, Mac are .pkg.
Notsrella posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 10:11 AM
Hi ghostman and Rhia474 , Yes those were the two files and it was definitely the Win (exe) versions. As I say it worked first time and I'm sure it said 'run' not 'open' on the two files. I can see myself having to buy Poser pro 11 ( its a dastardly plot!)
Rhia474 posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 10:23 AM
Wait, wait. Having to BUY? What version did you have before? Why would you need to buy if you are qualified for the free update? At this point I will let an actual not-just- user chime in .
hborre posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 10:36 AM
At this point, a screen cap might shed some light. My only confusion is the unsuitable programs which sound like legacy installs that don’t exist anymore (exe files). Would need verification that that is still happening.
Notsrella posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 10:44 AM
Hello Rhia474, Its Poser 11.1.1.35510. Which I'm very happy with. I wouldn't bother with the upgrade if my present setup would continue to work after doomsday! Anyway Poser pro 11 will probably only be available as a download (not physical) and would the download work? I could go back to Poser 10 I suppose!
Notsrella posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 11:05 AM
Hello hborre, When I click 'open' I get the choose program to open your file, sort of menu and a range of normal, working programs, such as Windows Media Centre, Paint Shop Pro, Notepad. All fine programs but of no use to open the two upgrade files. (What's a 'screen cap?)
Rhia474 posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 11:13 AM
I still don't understand how do you 'click open'. Do you have the program in your downloads folder on your computer? One left mouseclick should not open the file, it does nothing. A doubleclick should run it if it's an exe file and it's physically on your computer. Right click should bring up a menu where 'run' should be an option. A screencap is a picture taken of what is on your screen. Taken usually with either the PrintScreen button on your keyboard or using a program that came with your Windows such as 'Snipping Tool'.

Hello Rhia474, Of course from screen capture! Right, now then I've downloaded these blessed files. They're sitting there in the 'downloads'. I left click them or right double click. A small menu appears with 'open' at the top of several others with 'properties' at the bottom. I click open and a small screen appears with a range of standard programs none of which will attempt to open the files e.g. Adobe pdf reader tells me that it isn't able to open the file as its not a pdf document and looks very smug as it tells me! (you must be as tired of all this as I am!)
Nails60 posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 11:44 AM
When I right click I get the menu you refer to with open at the top etc. The second itemdown is run as administrator. If you have this choose that, not open.
tsoren posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 11:46 AM
Double left click on the files. Not as you wrote: "I left click them or right double click."
Rhia474 posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 11:50 AM
^^^ LEFT DoubleClick.
tsoren posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 12:02 PM
And where you are clicking these files...I think most of us are assuming you are looking at the files on your computer, not the website. On windows press the Windows logo key + E to open File Explorer. In File Explorer click on the downloads folder. In downloads you should see the two files you downloaded. Left double-click on "Install Poser 11.exe" and run that install. When that is done, left double-click on "PoserSupport.exe" to install that.

Nails60 Hi, 'Run as Administrator' doesn't appear. Looking at the files they are greyed out(?) and in properties described as 'file', no exe. or any other extension is visible! as for clicking, tsoren and Rhia474 , one left click highlights the file,2 left clicks gives me open as does1 right click. If I added .exe to the file in 'renaming' would that work?
Notsrella posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 12:20 PM
Hello, all, Would you believe it! I added .exe to the files. The Poser insignia appeared on each and on clicking I got 'Run as administrator' After a cup of tea I shall see if installation occurs! Many thanks to you all for your efforts on my behalf! (Rhia474 it was you who said something like if its an .exe file it should open, Bless you.) Noel
tsoren posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 12:23 PM
In file explorer, by default, the file extensions are hidden. If you right click the file, and select "Properties" you should see some facts about the file such as size, and type of file. It should say it is an executable file (.exe) and the size should be about 1.17 GB for "Install Poser 11". If those two things are not true, the file may need to be re-downloaded.
Ah, just saw your post after I sent this one. Seems you are on your way. Good luck!
Notsrella posted Sat, 21 September 2019 at 12:33 PM
Thanks tsoren. I wonder why the .exe went missing. If nothing else I've learnt several things today especially on opening a thread (I've looked at Rederosity for years and not done that! Also how nice and helpful the forum members are) Noel

Keep an eye on program behaviors, missing formats is not a normal occurrence which could signify corrupted files upon downloading. Could be just a hiccup but if you continue to notice odd issues you may be experiencing unrelated computer problems.

Thanks hborre. All that going on for the lack of three letters and a full stop! (for want of a nail the battle was lost!) Thanks for your interest. Noel
