Purchased P11 online some years back. Tried to load the program today and got the attached message. Who should I contact as the serial number I've from the original purchase fails to activate the program - Smith Micro?
heyload posted Thu, 26 September 2019 at 3:33 PM
This is the pop-up I get using the serial code that came with initial purchase

Did you install the Bondware version from Renderosity or are you still running Poser 11.1?
donnena posted Thu, 26 September 2019 at 8:56 PM
Please go here https://www.posersoftware.com/downloads and download and install the Poser exe and the support Exe.
Smith micro has shut off it's activation servers. Poser Pro 2014 GAME PRO and both Poser 11 versions will NOT function until you update.
THIS IS A FREE UPDATE.

Question: Why is the update being triaged instead of letting everyone a access their applications? It's been over a week since the servers have been down. Is there some type of offer/compense for lost time?

Hello Heyload.
I put a similar point out to the forum a few weeks back with the question 'How Long do we have before the software becomes defunct'. The general consensus of a cut-off time was as being, imminent. As like many other Poser users who were in the middle of a work project found it to be more of an irritating obstacle with spurious requirements born through hearsay rather than a real physical person from 'Bondware Inc' answering the brass ring questions. One of the work around's 'although may be a little late for you' is to take Poser 11 & Poser 2014 executable's out of the firewall settings. This stops the servers and local software talking to each other by cutting off the so-called 'phone home' application. I updated PP11 two days ago after renewing the firewall settings. My PP2014 is quite happy working stand alone still disconnected from the net. Obviously PP2014 is unable to update, but it has given me more time to finish work.

@4364327 This is not Triage, this is an ongoing update that is attempting to address issues that were introduced with the loss of the SM licence servers AND warning was given weeks in advance for people to update/upgrade please read @4364298.
@4364230 also please read @4364298.

I was enrolled as an early adopter yet the downloads came up corrupt. I have been in constant communications with Renderosity and SmithMicro since my software became dysfunctional. Any store credits/discounts or other consideration? We all have audiences to appease.
donnena posted Fri, 27 September 2019 at 9:25 AM
Talking to Smith Micro is a waste of time. They no longer own the program, and have shut down their servers.
We emailed everyone on SmithMicro's list of users to let them know what was going to happen and when. As an Early Adopter, you received this notice, that clearly spelled out what was going to happen..
Early Adopters had access to the software from 4 September forward. I find it difficult to believe you could not download a functional copy in a 15 day time span. I do not recall any complaints of corruption were received. Since 19 September, the Bridge release has been sitting on our servers, FREE to anyone with a valid Smith Micro Serial number from Game Dev or EITHER version of Poser 11.
The soft ware is available to you to download and install.

On a Mac any updating to Poser completely changed my preferences and it has been a real pain in the heinie resetting my desktop again to where I need it to be for the way I work. I wish there was a way to turn off stickie pallets permanently so I can just put my tools where I want. It seems to allow it until you get the dragging pallet/tool too close to a window edge and it quickly converts to a sticky one again. I found Poser 11 to b the most egregious version for that sticky palette thing. Someone please include an option to tun it off permanently as we need it.
So on a Mac running the installer program changes the app itself but all the Runtime files need to be reinstalled by hand?

Did you disable drag-docking?

drag docking? There was a function to tun docking off in the drop down menu in poser. But s soon as you drag the window too close to the side fo the screen it locks in place again. Kind of a stupid function in my opinion. You should either be able to dock or drag and place. Is there somewhere else to permanently turn it off in?
Kerya posted Wed, 02 October 2019 at 4:11 AM
I don't know about Poser 11, to tell the truth, but in PP2014 you click on the little square in the upper right corner of a pallette and there you can choose docked, floating and enable drag-docking - untick the last one and it doesn't stick anymore.
shante posted Wed, 02 October 2019 at 12:42 PM
Yeah that's it. I turn it off and then drag anywhere except for wen i drag it too close to the edge of the frame and then docking reactivates and the function snaps back to a docked position.
Kerya posted Thu, 03 October 2019 at 2:35 AM
I am really sorry - I think in that case you should either start a new thread (because people are not going to read about your problem in a thread about activation) or submit a ticket.

if, on installation, you elect to use existing preferences all your runtimes and your setup remain intact, if you did not, then the default for the installer is to backup the preferences.
close poser, open the backup folder copy the contents into your prefs folder and restart poser. All should be back to normal.

The Drag Dropping can be completely turned off by unselecting that feature and have Floating turned on. Both features can coexist on which will allow it to float as a separate window but when it approaches a docking spot it will automatically dock. Just having Floating activated to prevent automatic docking. I have tested it without any glitches.
shante posted Fri, 04 October 2019 at 11:06 AM
Must be something wron with me because I can not get it to stay as floating. As you say, as soon as it gets close to docking area on edges of frames it locks into place and i have to go back and reassign the floating preference. Maybe t is a problem on Macs with Poser (2014 did the same darn thing if I remember correctly. But then again my mind is terribly wasted so it could just be me. :(

actually I've never seen this menu or option when I installed the updates. Does it show up on Mac installs? Where is this backup folder you mentioned?

You are no burden Shante, we will endeavour to assist you until you are working. You can find your preferences folder with this small tool the backup folders should be in the folder above ( the preferences parent folder ) which you can also get to with this tool.
