------- very upset rant ------------- I've been with Poser since the stone ages and also been on the beta team for several years. So I feel I have contributed with lots of work through the years.
In my ignorance I thought I could simply continue using Poser 'as is' since I only need to finish the game I am working on and don't need further updates. But BW stopped that!!! My 13 years of developing work (unpaid, be noted) while bed bound with a chronic illness, just went down the drain.
YES, I am very upset!! I went away for a few weeks (health stuff) and now I seem to be without Poser. Not at all happy right now. :(
And I have no clue how to get it to work again and am not sure I care right now. ------------- rant over -------------

Which version of Poser? That's quite important. There have been a number of updates to various versions which are required if you want to keep using it.

I have Poser 11 pro with latest updates that were available from SM at end of summer. But can't start Poser to see the exact number.

SM's beta keys were not carried over to Bondware.

There is a free update for Poser 11 Pro from the new owner, and they sent notifications and emails and info. The reason your old software does not work because SmithMIcro shut down their server since they no longer own Poser. Please go to https://www.posersoftware.com/downloads, have your serial number ready and download the new version. it is free for you. Make sure, again, that you have the serial number. Download the exe and the PoserSupport file first, then any content files. Sorry to emphasize this--make sure you have your serial number. And choose to exist your preferences and your install location when you install to get the least trouble.

Have patience Tiny! We'll get you up and running somehow.
No way we can let the hair room "Fur Lady of Poser" have a non-working copy of Poser!
We can't let the person who put fur on the Hivewire Gorilla down, folks! Fur for HW Gorilla

When I downloaded Poser 11.2 there was no "keep old prefs" option. Not that it mattered as I had put a copy of my prefs in a folder just in case.

Weird. I had that option. The same as it's always been. There's three options. Back up old prefs, install new ones. Keep old prefs. And install new, don't keep the old. The default is back up the old and install new.
I usually end up zipping through that screen and just accepting the default, even though that's not what I want, because I'm impatient. And I don't install Poser often enough to remember to slow down and read that screen. ?

Guess what! I'm up and running again! >happy dance<
Thank you **Rhia474 ** for the link and info it all worked smoothly. <3
And my license is valid too.
Thank you **Glitterati3D ** for your very kind words. Needed that. Big hug!
So, how do I change the subject line to "not so upset anymore..."?

So glad it worked out for you!
Bondware and Hivewire included a lot of free content with this update, including La Femme, Dawn, Dusk, the Hivewire Horse, and the gorilla. Maybe you'll get some new customers for your furry gorilla.

@Tiny
That was one of the politest rants I've ever read here in the forum. I'm happy the vets got you up and running! More importantly, I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.

I think that Rhia474's answer or something very like it should be a permanent sticky at the top of the forum, and all the appropriate 'tech' fora as well, with a title that tells what problem it solves. I'm sure Tiny isn't going to be the last Poser user coming back from an absence to find they can't open Poser. The more accessible that message is, the less grief will be generated.

You just haven't been around here long enough.........no matter how many times we type the same thing with the same answers to the same questions, the forum is like ReadMEs and the User Manual.
No one reads them FIRST, then starts ranting.

You don't hear from the people who do read them. If posting a sticky about this solves the problem for a dozen people, I'd say it's well worth doing. I understand why people would be pissed if their purchase suddenly stops working, and the faster they can be given a solution the better.
EClark1894 posted Sun, 06 October 2019 at 3:32 AM
Traci's right, HK. They'll post first and rant, then about two days later, they MAY read the sticky and find their answer, Even if some posts the link in their thread.
Second, they're here primarily to rant and rave, so that's what they do. Third, this falls under the heading of "Post Here OFTEN?" Obviously they don't. They probably think SM still owns Poser, and only posted here because the SM Poser forum is closed. Assuming they posted THERE.
quietrob posted Sun, 06 October 2019 at 9:36 AM
I think everyone's got a proper angle on this one. Having a sticky might just save time and prevent a rave and rant session. Anything to stop some jackass who comes in after 3 posts in ten years because he just found out that SM left him high and dry and wants to blame Bondware for his trouble all while complaining about the Poser figures he never uses.
Not all are as smooth and courteous as the OP. Or me
