I'll be getting a new computer in the next few days, and I'm not clear on what the best approach to installing Poser is. Do I have to do something to disable the current installation? Or can I just download the program, put in my serial number and voila?

Yes, you need to deactivate your current installation of Poser Pro on that computer. Instructions for doing so are in your Poser Reference Manual on pages 30 - 32.

Hello.
You no longer have to un-register/disable your license key. You just need to be sure and download the installer from this information:
We launched a required update to Poser 11.2 for all Poser 11 and Poser 2014 GameDev users.
Below you will find a link to download as well as a link to the article with more details:
Please be sure to download Poser 11.2 from the download link supplied above and install directly from that file. The old Smith Micro download manager will not be able to update your product.
Regards,
JennBlake

Does this mean that there's no longer a limit to how many unique hardware id's your SN is assigned to?

Actually, now I'M confused too. And I followed both links. Except for where it says you are not allowed to exceed the number of seats allowed, I didn't see anything about deactivating one installation so you can transfer to another machine. I hope Jenn will clear this up for me.

I have trying to get info about reinstalling poserpro 2014 and it seems very difficult. to find out anything. It has been awhile since rendo bought smith micro but what did they buy. I have checked my account and there no poser software listed.

I had contact with Smith micro and they stated about a week ago that Bondware is in Charge for the whole Product line
" The Poser Product line is now being developed by Bondware and Renderosity.com. As the developer and distributor for Poser "
"Smith Micro no longer provides any support for the Poser products."
"Access through Download Manager for Poser 11 and Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev has ended. Access to installers for Poser Debut, Poser 10 and Poser Pro 2014 through Download Manager will be ending in the near future as that server access ends."
I also do not believe that you will get many helpful answers in here . But PP2014 does not require any Activation you can just use your Serial and way you go, you also might be lucky being able to download 2014 through the download manager then make sure to backup the Installers before the access ends.
Public access to informations are difficult so you might want to try contacting People who can help Privately this will keeps out trolls and give you better results for your questions :) as far as I know jennblake is in charge to assist in first hand else give it a shot through other members.
