Hello.
We launched a required update to Poser 11.2 for all Poser 11 and Poser 2014 GameDev users.
Below you will find a link to download as well as a link to the article with more details:
Please be sure to download Poser 11.2 from the download link supplied above and install directly from that file. The old Smith Micro download manager will not be able to update your product.
Regards,
JennBlake

Hello, i have just downloaded the installation file for MacOS from the download link, but when i tried to run the file Mac OS told me it cannot run this app because it is not from a verified developer. My OS is Catalina 10.15.1 How can i install Poser 11.2 under this OS? Thank you for your help Nantwein
LeeMoon posted Sat, 23 November 2019 at 9:17 AM
Hi Nantwein. I got that message when I used the update installation file under macOS Catalina. Here's the solution...
From Apple's Support site:
In macOS Catalina and macOS Mojave, when an app fails to install because it hasn’t been notarized or is from an unidentified developer, it will appear in System Preferences > Security & Privacy, under the General tab. Click Open Anyway to confirm your intent to open or install the app.
The warning prompt reappears, and you can click Open.*
The app is now saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it, just as you can any authorized app.
Hope this helps!

After i've unistalled and reinstalled Poser 11 - how do I get my Runtime directory back?
willshetterly posted Sat, 28 December 2019 at 7:37 PM
raingod, is the plus button in your library panel not working? (I hope I'm remembering this correctly. I'll check next time I start the program.)
raingod posted Sat, 28 December 2019 at 8:24 PM
What I did was backup my Runtime Folder, then Uninstall my old Poser, Reinstall the new Poser - then I copied my old Runtime directory back into the new directory (After preserving the new one - just as a precaution). Starting poser with the new Runtime directory works fine - however with the Old Runtime it crashes out (no error).
willshetterly posted Sat, 28 December 2019 at 8:47 PM
Do your different runtimes have different names? Or there might be something off with the file structure of the one that crashes.
raingod posted Sat, 28 December 2019 at 9:59 PM
When I backed up my old Runtime I renamed it "Runtime Lifeboat". After I reinstalled Poser, I took the new Runtime directory and renamed it "New Runtime". Then I copied "Runtime Lifeboat" into the same directory and changed it's name back to simply "Runtime" allowing me to switch the new RT for my Old RT while preserving the New RT. What this did was allow me to swap between the 2 directories by simply changing which one was named "Runtime". This is how I was able to determine that one directory works (the new one) and one doesn't (my old one).
willshetterly posted Sat, 28 December 2019 at 10:20 PM
If I'm following you correctly, that may be where your problem is. I have a folder called Poser Official and another called Poser Content. Each one has a runtime within it. Using the plus symbol, I can load both into the library and select whichever I want. Anyway, that's the end of my very limited knowledge. Good luck!
raingod posted Sat, 28 December 2019 at 10:33 PM
I like to keep filepaths simple to make things easier to find - my content directory is simply D:> Poser 11>Runtime. I need my old P11 content to work on this filepath because several other 3rd party programs look there for my Poser content. Also not really sure what will happen with things like textures if I change directory names. I'm envisioning a ton of "cannot find file XXX" errors then I'd have to manually redirect where it's looking for things. Hopefully someone else will have some insight... but thank you for trying!
raingod posted Sun, 29 December 2019 at 11:31 AM
Update: Problem Solved! I simply copied my Old Runtime directory INTO my new one (After backing up both) - do NOT overwrite any existing files! Now Poser 11 can launch, and all my old content is right where it needs to be! =)

Hi. After not using my copy of Poser 11 Pro for several months, the other day I went to use it but apparently my previous valid license does not work... I came to this forum hoping to find some directions on what to do, but I feel more confused now...
At the current moment, after installing Poser 11.2 which seems to be the recommended approach, I’m faced with the registration menu which seems to be assuming I have been issued a new license key... which I do not see any obvious way of attaining...
The registration menu seems to have a space for the previous license key, but it will not let me enter it (presumably) without a new license key... meaning you can’t type in the old license without completing the “required” information slots...
Can anyone tell me how to obtain my new license key... ?
My copy of Poser Pro 11 is from an actual physical DVD purchased from Smith Micro... I’ve been using it for several years without any problems until now.
Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to provide.

Either I am just being impatient or it is not loading since I upgraded it to Poser 11.3. Or it could be I am using an old shortcut. Would that matter?

Hello, Don't know how to fix this but we had a thunderstorm and I shut down my system to keep it safe. When the storm had passed I started it up again. The thing is the internet was down still. A dialogue box came up saying could not start because lease could not be verified. So, does that mean I don't own the software? I thought I'd bought it. Anyhow when the inter was back up it worked. I've still got all the disks and CD's from Poser 1 to 7, I skipped updating for a while because of a new job. Is there no way to use Poser 11 without Internet? We get a lot of storms in the summer and in a rural county the power is always restored before the internet. Please Advise.

Unfortunately, when SmithMicro released Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev and Poser 11, they built-in the phone-home feature to verify the license. There is a way to prevent this, so you will need to contact admin for a request and the proper procedure to do this.

Having been distracted by other projects for a while but I decided to return to Poser after a couple of weeks of non use, problem was I had not realised that the drive holding all my Poser content had become unplugged. Poser tried to launch but obviously could not find any content so I stopped the program and reconnected the drive however, while Poser will launch it immediately locks up. Task manager shows there are 5 threads running but never seem to stop. I tried changing the preference files but had the same problem. I uninstalled Poser and reinstalled Poser 11.3 which then asked me for my serial number when launched, this it accepted and Poser loaded with the default screen but still the program locks up.
I have also uninstalled and then manually deleted every reference I can find to Poser on the C drive and re-installed - same problem. Finally I uninstalled using geek uninstaller and reinstalled, each time I had to validate so it looked like a clean install but on launch it goes walkabout for long periods.
Any ideas on what to do next?
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
hornet3d posted Mon, 08 June 2020 at 12:56 AM
It is OK, I managed to get around the problem. As Poser would not run after installing a fresh copy I tried reverting to the old copy. I have the 'C' drive automatically backed up to the cloud on a regular basis. I was therefore able to restore the old Poser 11 installation into the programs folder and also restore the Program Data and App Data files. That done I tried again and Poser launched with all my old settings but then it started asking for files that had nothing to do with my saved scene so I let it do its search function. Once that was complete I was able to collect the scene inventory which showed what files were missing allowing me to restore those files as well. I guess it took about three hours to do the restore but it worked and it is nice to know my backup system works. It would also taken about that length of time to rebuild my preferences on a new and clean install so I am not too upset, I could have done without the hassle though.

Rod, if you look at the bottom slider on the properties tab, it has moved a long way to the left, this does occur occasionally, and has since SM released poser 11, saving the scene and restarting poser usually fixes this if ( as is also sometimes the case ) the slider cannot be pulled back to it's correct position.
Which build are you using?

Thanks for the help! And I did not know I could add an entire folder of characters at once though the 'Add to Library' tool; I add each model separately by selecting its Runtime, although then I can group them in my desired order -- but it takes a lot of Library listing space since the categories aren't contained within a folder. I suppose if you add a folder of models to the Library at once, they will show up in the Poser Library as a folder under the folder's name and in the order they appear in that folder? I'll try it out...

Msellers2 writes, "The thing is the internet was down still. A dialogue box came up saying could not start because lease could not be verified. So, does that mean I don't own the software? I thought I'd bought it."
If I understand correctly, lots of software (not just Poser) these days regularly "calls home" to the merchant's server so as to verify that the user's license is valid. As example, there have been threads on the SketchUp forum about this too.
If I understand correctly, what this means is that nobody actually owns software anymore. We own it only so long as the merchant is still in business, still owns the software, and their servers are up and running.
Can't say this for sure, but my guess is that if Smith Micro had just pulled the plug on Poser and walked away, instead of selling Poser to Renderosity, then all copies of Poser everywhere might have then gone dead. Again, just a best guess, and happy to be corrected as needed.
And again, to the best of my knowledge this is an issue that affects many different softwares these days, and not just Poser. It appears this is how software merchants are protecting their businesses against rampant software piracy, which is certainly a valid concern.

Yes, it SUCKS that so many software manufacturers have taken the measures you mentioned. 20 years ago when you bought SW it was good for years; I still use Word 2000 and Photo Impact from that era today -- because they still work fine for my needs and the license is forever -- as it SHOULD be. I feel sorry for all the Photoshop users that pay by each month or by the year just to use it. I paid less for Photo Impact (which still does 95% of what Photoshop can do) and Word 2000 than what Adobe charges for one month of Photoshop...
For Poser 11, there is a way to have it not call home to confirm validation before it will operate. I'm not sure what you must do to qualify (unreliable or very expensive Internet access?), but I believe the author of this thread, jennblake, can help.

Quick question. My P11 Pro recently stop installing additional content. The runtimes are still accessible, and I do get a screen confirmation after attempting to install, but no other installs are registering in the library. Any suggestions?
How are you installing your content and did you open the content file to make sure that they follow the folder hierarchy established for every runtime? If there is something unusual with the content files, you may be nesting their actual runtime within a runtime. Are the links you're using for Posersoftware.com or Smithmicro? Make sure it's posersoftware.
Also, since you said it was a very old download, it sounds like you might need to upgrade. The current version is 11.3.818. You can get that at the same site. click on downloads.

I don't know if this is the right thread but it seems like a "Poser 11 won't start or won't keep running issue" so here goes... Poser 11 will crash when I either File->Close or File->New if I have previously loaded a figure or scene that uses the DSON importer. I'm running Windows 10 and looking in my application logs I can see a new entry for every time it happens, the "friendly view" information for each event looks like this Poser.exe 11.3.818.0 5edcd5a1 python27.dll 2.7.17150.1013 5e815992 c000041d 0000000000119a32 338 01d709d4605ab9fa C:Program FilesPoser SoftwarePoser 11Poser.exe C:Program FilesPoser SoftwarePoser 11python27.dll 9e2f0a95-7374-4d4f-93ca-60e6b49310e3
It also randomly happens if I have a scene with DSON imported figures and delete one or more figures from the scene, but the file->Close and file->New behaviour is consistently repeatable. It doesn't happen if I haven't loaded any figures in that use the DSON importer. Is there a known issue with DSON and Poser 11.3 and any known workaround? I use Genesis 1 figures a lot, so for the time being I'm stuck working in Poser 10 then loading up nearly completed scenes in Poser 11 just when I want to use any new functionality like the new render engine.
I just upgraded from Poser 10 to Poser 11.3.818. Installed fresh from that version, I didn't update from any earlier version like 11.2, then I downloaded the x64 windows DSON importer from DAZ and installed it to my Poser 11 directory and loaded up all my runtimes from previous Poser versions (I have several runtimes worth of content from Poser 4 onward).

From what I've read about the DSON Importer, there was a version that didn't work correctly and caused major headaches for many users. It may have been the latest iteration but I couldn't be sure. It might be worth obtaining an earlier version if you can find it and see if the issue still persists.
grosporina posted Tue, 23 February 2021 at 9:25 AM
Thanks, I have seen some stuff about the transition form 11.2 to 11.3 being a messy one. I will see what I can do about getting an older version, I don't think the official download site has legacy versions.

I have been one of the lucky few that didn't have major problems with the 11.2 to 11.3 updates. If you are using DAZ Import Manager for installation then it is a likelihood it only contains the latest version. However, if you check your downloads at DAZ3D you might come across the separate iterations. You just need to know when you ordered the app.
grosporina posted Tue, 23 February 2021 at 10:23 AM
I've done everything as manually as I could but I'm a bit confused, are you saying that the issue may be with the version of DSON Importer? I originally got it a few years ago but the only download I see available to me now is the current version, 1.2.0.12. I might have older installers that I downloaded over the years in backups but I think they'd be 32bit versions being for Poser 10 and earlier. As for Poser 11 I just purchased it days ago, so I don't have the install media for anything but 11.3.818.

One question: are you turning off Subdivision when you import Genesis into Poser 11? This particular feature has been problematic in the past, I have had crashes and slow responses when the DSON Importer was introduced. Turning off Subdivision eliminated that problem.
grosporina posted Tue, 23 February 2021 at 11:27 AM
For me DSON mporter chews away in the background whenever I open a Genesis figure from the Poser companion files (the .duf, .py, .cr2). I can zero out the subdivision slider after having loaded a figure and that doesn't do anything to prevent the crash. It's been a few years since I built up my library of Genesis content, but I don't remember having access to any options at load time, I just load up the character from the runtime library and DSON importer throws up a couple progress bar dialogs then presto the figure's loaded. Is there something I should to do force a "re-import" to have access to importer options? The companion files in the runtime folder seem to be the same versions as I originally downloaded from DAZ.

Try resaving your figure back into the Library with a different name or a different location and load that one into your scene. It might make a difference but then again it might not. I know that I can get Genesis 8 into Poser 12 using that method after using the converter for Genesis 3. Might be worth a try.
grosporina posted Tue, 23 February 2021 at 6:30 PM
Thanks for your help so far. Tried your suggestion, didn't seem to make any difference, still crashing same as before on file->close and file->new even if I create a new genesis-based library entry, shutdown, the load up clean and load up the new library character.

Appears the work around is not to save the figure again with any hair props or clothing apparently dson does not except it and corrupts the figure in some way.
Basically you have to dress the figure from scratch and can't save it as a pz3 or cr2 for the the problem to go away, however I'm still getting crashes whenever I delete anything dson in the scene so if I have to remove anything I have to make it transparent to hide it because hide doesn't seem to work either.
Same issue crashes when I delete a dson figure running poser 11 on 16 gigs of memory on an I 7 quad-core with invidia 128 video memory.
Not only that but my figures after being saved as pz3 load back with corrupted fittings to clothing sometimes the figures get corrupted and spagettified stretched out in a spiral formation.

It's definitely not the runtimes from other versions of poser mines doing the same thing with a new runtime and no early runtimes added installed all content fresh.
grosporina posted Fri, 12 March 2021 at 8:07 AM
Well at least I'm not alone in this boat. If it means starting from "clean" figures every time that's a bit of a nuisance but it's something I can try. To date whenever I've loaded a Genesys based figure it's been some customised version. At least I can still do most of my work on a scene in P10 then open it in P11 to tweak the lighting and rendering options, the crashes haven't started happening yet at other times besides when either deleting a character or closing a document.

I was running Poser 11.2ish this morning. It shut down abruptly mid render. When I immediately went to restart it, it got as far as the splash screen, started to load the Pose room, then crashed (shut down, no error message).
I tried restarting a couple of times.
There were no modifications to my PC and I'm running Windows 10.
I uninstalled Poser 11.2 using geek.
I downloaded and installed 11.3.818. When I run Poser 11.3 now, it also makes it past the splash screen, loads the base figure in the Pose room and then shuts down.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can try to get past this crash?

For the first time since 1994 and Poser 4 I find myself forced to contact someone for basic help. I have progressed through Poser 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10Pro, 11 pro and 2014Pro without need of tech support, now I find that my last two versions have been hi-jacked and I am being forced to ask permission to use them. Not real happy about that, they were purchased with the understanding that it was a purchase not a rental/lease or, something that now needs to be licensed and I'm not sure of the whole thing I had to go through this with 11.1 or 2 thought I was ok but I got sick and pulled away from my computer 5 months now I'm back and I had to re-license or something do this download, to the same location but this time, all of my old files, art files can't find textures and that should not happen. Is this to be the norm for Poser? I've been pretty loyal to this point but if I am going to have to go through all of my art and re texture I call bullshit! If I am going to have to put up with this millennial crap, I've already dled DS, I'll let go all the products I've bought from you and make my switch now. Oh and if this was a decision of some pompous boomer like me, please, someone kick him/her really hard between the legs... Yours, Frustrated
