Not really, the default folders placed by DS in the documents folder are pretty much installed content. Mainly asset content and some plugins use the folder, the only way to restore them would be reinstalling the missing content.

It does appear that DS on installation does create some of these empty folders and they are used by DS when saving a preset as the default location, but if the documents folder library is missing it seems to just shift to another active library for the default. So unless you really want to save your presets here, you don't really need them.

can't do that unless someone can tell me the folder names that are generated by the install . . . we are all alone out here , , , together.

I have to install it to the desktop where I can just add another hard drive dedicated to Poser and DAZ. and find out the banes of the folders before unzipping any files to it.

The names of the content directories don't matter, just that you place the Runtime, Data, and ther folders at the same level from the zip in the folder you have set as a content directory (and point Install Manager to that folder).

OK, so need Studio folder with Runtime and Data folders in it; then I can install all new downloaded files.

Thank you so much.

You just need a folder set as a Daz Studio Format Content directory and a Poser Formats Content directory (you can use the same folder for each). You don't need t add the subfolders as those will (usually) come from the installed content.

I've redone it all again and still having missing file problems and morphs not working . . . I think I just give up.

thanks everyone

If still want to get this going,

Once you have the content in its preferred location you need to update the location in the Content Directory Manager in DS.

Which missing file problems and which morphs are not working?

Also note that content from different stores will be zipped differently. Content from here at Renderosity (should) starts with the data, etc folders. Content from Daz starts with a folder named 'Content' and has the data folders underneath. If you download and install from Daz with their download-install manager (DIM) then it might be different.

I think I'm running into the problem of DAZ content being in a content folder; when I extract files to My Library, I was just finding that while the files were creating a 'content' folder, I was getting errors in the Studio because the file were being pointed to the main folder and not to the data being in a sub folder . . . I manually moved the files to the My Library folder and the problem was resolved. SO, am wondering if there is supposed to be a content folder in there at all! Does everyone have a 'content' folder inside 'My Library'? Because now I have a render problem which is making me wonder if files needed were stuck in the contents folder.

SilentWinter posted Sat, 15 February 2020 at 4:32 AM

^You only need a folder to contain the data/etc folders - traditionally this was named 'Content' by Daz Studio (from many versions back). Now they use 'My Library' as a default. Oldies like me still like 'Content' but you can use whatever you like. You don't need a folder named 'Content'

This one catches out a lot of people. "The Content folder" in the top level of a downloaded zip installer does not mean you must have "a folder that must be named Content", it's "the folder set up in your Content Directory Manager dialog that contains your content files".

In early versions of DAZ|Studio this was actually named "Content", and that seems to have stuck for installers from many non-DAZ sources. Yes, that's horribly accident-prone. No, I don't think anything can be done about it at this late date.

Extract the folders from inside the Content folder in the zip and merge them into the existing folders inside whatever your existing content location folder is named.

The DAZ Install Manager will strip away the content folder from within the zip file and install the subfolders into the correct locations in My DAZ 3d Library, this the default folder for DIM. That is my method of choice for installing new content into DAZStudio. If the preferences are set up correctly for DIM, you can even install DSON Poser files from DAZ3D with little trouble.
